Fatty acid composition of beef from Nguni steers supplemented with Acacia karroo leaf-meal

TL;DR: Using A. karroo in cattle diets can improve fatty acid composition of beef from a human health perspective, and highest α-linolenic acid and docosapentaenoic acid, and lowest n −6/ n −3 ratios were recorded in beef from steers that received AK diet.

Biodiversity in Indian Underexploited/Tribal Pulses

TL;DR: The authors’ team of workers have gathered 192 germplasm (accessions) of wild legumes including 45 tribal pulses from different agroclaimatic regions in India to understand their biodiversity with a view to exploit such genetic resources for additional supply of plant protein so that they can augment the availability of protein from conventional pulse crops in India.
Journal ArticleDOI

Utility of Acacia karroo for beef production in Southern African smallholder farming systems: A review

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors demonstrate the potential of A. karroo to reduce worm burdens, and improve growth rates, carcass traits, beef quality and fatty acid profiles of cattle on rangeland.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chemical composition and nutritional evaluation of an underexploited legume, Acacia nilotica (L.) Del.

TL;DR: In this paper, the nutritional and antinutritional characteristics and biological value of Acacia nilotica (L.) Del. seeds were investigated and the in vitro protein digestibility of raw, dry heat-treated and autoclaved seeds were 61.2%, 77.4% and 80.2% respectively.

A simple method for the isolation and purification of total lipides from animal tissues.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors described a simplified version of the method and reported the results of a study of its application to different tissues, including the efficiency of the washing procedure in terms of the removal from tissue lipides of some non-lipide substances of special biochemical interest.
