Scaling, dimensional analysis, and indentation measurements
Yang-Tse Cheng,Che-Min Cheng +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide an overview of the basic concepts of scaling and dimensional analysis, followed by a review of some of the recent work on applying these concepts to modeling instrumented indentation measurements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nanoindentation of biological materials
TL;DR: This work has shown that indentation data analysis can be used to investigate variations in mechanical properties with changes in tissue organization or composition in mineralized and soft tissues, and map mechanical properties spatially in complex biomaterials.

Nanoindentation and the dynamic characterization of viscoelastic solids
Erik G. Herbert,Erik G. Herbert,Warren C. Oliver,Warren C. Oliver,George M. Pharr,George M. Pharr +5 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared measured values of the complex modulus as determined by dynamic nanoindentation and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) for high-damping thermoplastic as a standard reference material.
Journal ArticleDOI
Impression creep and other localized tests
TL;DR: Impression creep and impression fatigue, both using cylindrical indenters, are reviewed in this paper, and a steady state per cycle is shown and the power law dependence of maximum stress is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Nanoindentation of soft hydrated materials for application to vascular tissues.
TL;DR: A hydration system was developed that maintained sample hydration for over 8 h without completely submerging the sample, and a 100-microm radius of curvature conospherical tip was shown to be a suitable tip for indenting a variety of soft hydrated materials and back-illuminated agarose gel was found to be an effective material for use in tip alignment.

Viscoelastic properties of polymers
TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the nature of Viscoelastic behavior of polymeric systems and approximate relations among the linear Viscoels and approximate interrelations among the Viscelastic Functions.

Hardness measurement at penetration depths as small as 20 nm
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the properties of indentation hardness on the sub-micrometre scale in nickel, gold and silicon and showed that indent areas and therefore hardness can be determined from penetration depth with reasonable accuracy, and that elastic relaxation can be quantitatively understood.
