This book presents a systematic account of optical coherence theory within the framework of classical optics, as applied to such topics as radiation from sources of different states of coherence, foundations of radiometry, effects of source coherence on the spectra of radiated fields, coherence theory of laser modes, and scattering of partially coherent light by random media. The book starts with a full mathematical introduction to the subject area and each chapter concludes with a set of exercises. The authors are renowned scientists and have made substantial contributions to many of the topics treated in the book. Much of the book is based on courses given by them at universities, scientific meetings and laboratories throughout the world. This book will undoubtedly become an indispensable aid to scientists and engineers concerned with modern optics, as well as to teachers and graduate students of physics and engineering.read more

Scheme of Thinking Quantum Systems
TL;DR: A general approach describing quantum decision procedures is developed that can be applied to quantum information processing, quantum computing, creation of artificial quantum intelligence, as well as to analyzing decision processes of human decision makers.
Journal ArticleDOI
Quantum Degeneracy of Microcavity Polaritons
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that parametric polariton scattering results in the transfer of a macroscopic population of polariton from one single quantum state into another one, and a simple method is outlined which provides direct evidence of the first-order spatial coherence of the transferred population.
Journal ArticleDOI
Newton-Leibniz integration for ket-bra operators in quantum mechanics (V) : Deriving normally ordered bivariate-normal-distribution form of density operators and developing their phase space formalism
Hong-Yi Fan,Hong-Yi Fan +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, Fan et al. showed that Newton-Leibniz integration over Dirac's ket-bra projection operators with continuum variables, which can be performed by the technique of integration within ordered product (IWOP) of operators, can directly recast density operators and generalized Wigner operators into normally ordered bivariate-normal distribution form, which has resemblance in statistics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stokes-anti-Stokes correlations in diamond.
TL;DR: The arrival statistics of Stokes (S) and anti-Stokes (aS) Raman photons generated in thin diamond crystals are investigated and strong quantum correlations between the S and aS signals are observed, which implies that the two processes share the same phonon.
Journal ArticleDOI
Commuting Heisenberg operators as the quantum response problem: Time-normal averages in the truncated Wigner representation
B. Berg,L. I. Plimak,L. I. Plimak,Anatoli Polkovnikov,M. K. Olsen,M. K. Olsen,Michael Fleischhauer,Wolfgang P. Schleich +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the applicability of the truncated Wigner approximation (−W) is extended to multitime averages of Heisenberg field operators and a path-integral approach in phase space based on the symmetric ordering of creation and annihilation operators is developed.
