Optimal Monetary Policy with Staggered Wage and Price Contracts
TLDR
In this article, the unconditional expectation of average household utility is expressed in terms of the unconditional variances of the output gap, price inflation, and wage inflation, where the model exhibits a tradeoff between stabilizing output gap and price inflation.Abstract:
We formulate an optimizing-agent model in which both labor and product markets exhibit monopolistic competition and staggered nominal contracts. The unconditional expectation of average household utility can be expressed in terms of the unconditional variances of the output gap, price inflation, and wage inflation. Monetary policy cannot replicate the Pareto-optimal equilibrium that would occur under completely flexible wages and prices; that is, the model exhibits a tradeoff between stabilizing the output gap, price inflation, and wage inflation. The Pareto optimum is attainable only if either wages or prices are completely flexible. For reasonable calibrations of the model, we characterize the optimal policy rule. Furthermore, strict price inflation targeting is clearly suboptimal, whereas rules that also respond to either the output gap or wage inflation are nearly optimal.read more

Monetary Policy Response to Oil Price Shocks
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that in a noncompetitive economy, policies that perfectly stabilize prices entail large welfare costs, hence explaining the reluctance of policymakers to enforce them, and derive a simple interest rate rule that depends only on observables but mimics the optimal plan in all dimensions.

SAMBA: Stochastic Analytical Model with a Bayesian Approach
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed and estimated a DSGE model for the Brazilian economy as part of the macroeconomic conomic modeling framework of the Central Bank of Brazil, which combines the building blocks of standard DSGE models (e.g., price and wage rigidities and adjustment costs) with the following features that better describe the Brazil economy: (i) a fiscal authority pursuing an explicit target for the primary surplus; (ii) administered or regulated prices as partof the consumer price index; (iii) external nance for imports, which amplies the eects

How Forward-Looking is Optimal Monetary Policy?
TL;DR: This paper showed that robustly optimal policy rules can be represented by interest-rate feedback rules that generalize the celebrated proposal of Taylor (1993), but require that the current interest rate and its recent rate of increase depend positively on the recent past level of the operating target and its rate of rise, in a way that is characteristic of estimable central bank reaction functions.
