Optimal Monetary Policy with Staggered Wage and Price Contracts
TLDR
In this article, the unconditional expectation of average household utility is expressed in terms of the unconditional variances of the output gap, price inflation, and wage inflation, where the model exhibits a tradeoff between stabilizing output gap and price inflation.Abstract:
We formulate an optimizing-agent model in which both labor and product markets exhibit monopolistic competition and staggered nominal contracts. The unconditional expectation of average household utility can be expressed in terms of the unconditional variances of the output gap, price inflation, and wage inflation. Monetary policy cannot replicate the Pareto-optimal equilibrium that would occur under completely flexible wages and prices; that is, the model exhibits a tradeoff between stabilizing the output gap, price inflation, and wage inflation. The Pareto optimum is attainable only if either wages or prices are completely flexible. For reasonable calibrations of the model, we characterize the optimal policy rule. Furthermore, strict price inflation targeting is clearly suboptimal, whereas rules that also respond to either the output gap or wage inflation are nearly optimal.read more

Exact Likelihood Computation for Nonlinear DSGE Models with Heteroskedastic Innovations
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors study a class of discrete-time rational expectations models where the variance of exogenous innovations is subject to stochastic regime shifts and show that up to a second-order approximation using perturbation methods, regime switching in the variances has an impact only on the intercept coefficients of the decision rules.

Inflation measurement and the ECB's pursuit of price stability: a first assessment
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors take a measurement perspective in evaluating the European Central Bank's quest for price stability during the first years of monetary expansion and conclude that the conceptual underpinnings of the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) remain sufficiently vague that it is difficult to compare with other indexes or come to any hard conclusions about its accuracy.

Time-to-build, monetary shocks, and aggregate fluctuations
TL;DR: In this article, a generalization of the "time-to-build" feature that incorporates multiple types of capital is proposed to produce u-shaped responses in output, investment, and inflation to a monetary policy shock.

Land finance, land attracting investment and housing price fluctuations in China
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors study the relationship between government imposed land price discrimination and housing price fluctuation in China and provide the first DSGE model considering such discrimination, showing that land finance, monetary easing policy, labor preference and housing demand shocks accounts for 39.01%, 24.89%, 14.45% and 9.26% of housing price variation from 2008Q1 to 2017Q4, respectively.
