Optimal Monetary Policy with Staggered Wage and Price Contracts

TLDR
In this article, the unconditional expectation of average household utility is expressed in terms of the unconditional variances of the output gap, price inflation, and wage inflation, where the model exhibits a tradeoff between stabilizing output gap and price inflation.
Abstract
We formulate an optimizing-agent model in which both labor and product markets exhibit monopolistic competition and staggered nominal contracts. The unconditional expectation of average household utility can be expressed in terms of the unconditional variances of the output gap, price inflation, and wage inflation. Monetary policy cannot replicate the Pareto-optimal equilibrium that would occur under completely flexible wages and prices; that is, the model exhibits a tradeoff between stabilizing the output gap, price inflation, and wage inflation. The Pareto optimum is attainable only if either wages or prices are completely flexible. For reasonable calibrations of the model, we characterize the optimal policy rule. Furthermore, strict price inflation targeting is clearly suboptimal, whereas rules that also respond to either the output gap or wage inflation are nearly optimal.

Some observations in the high-frequency versions of a standard New-Keynesian model

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the validity of a fundamental methodological precept according to which no substantive prediction or explanation of a well-defined macroeconomic period model should depend on the real time length of the period.

Speed Limit Policy and Liquidity Traps

TL;DR: In this article, a central bank with an objective for output growth stabilization aims to engineer a more gradual increase in output than under the standard discretionary policy, and the anticipation of a more restrained recovery exacerbates the declines in inflation and output when the lower bound is binding.

Unemployment as Excess Supply of Labor

TL;DR: In this article, a New-Keynesian model with variable capital was proposed to generate endogenous unemployment fluctuations as the difference between aggregate labor supply and aggregate labor demand, and the implied second-moment statistics of the unemployment rate provided a reasonable match with those observed in the data.

Endogenous Growth Mechanism as a Source of Medium Term Fluctuations in the Labor Market: Application to the US Economy

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focus simultaneously on the short term component and the medium term component of medium term cycle in a unified way, and they suggest that the low-frequency frequency variation in the economy do not explain the high-frequency variation in labor markets.
