Optimal Monetary Policy with Staggered Wage and Price Contracts
TLDR
In this article, the unconditional expectation of average household utility is expressed in terms of the unconditional variances of the output gap, price inflation, and wage inflation, where the model exhibits a tradeoff between stabilizing output gap and price inflation.Abstract:
We formulate an optimizing-agent model in which both labor and product markets exhibit monopolistic competition and staggered nominal contracts. The unconditional expectation of average household utility can be expressed in terms of the unconditional variances of the output gap, price inflation, and wage inflation. Monetary policy cannot replicate the Pareto-optimal equilibrium that would occur under completely flexible wages and prices; that is, the model exhibits a tradeoff between stabilizing the output gap, price inflation, and wage inflation. The Pareto optimum is attainable only if either wages or prices are completely flexible. For reasonable calibrations of the model, we characterize the optimal policy rule. Furthermore, strict price inflation targeting is clearly suboptimal, whereas rules that also respond to either the output gap or wage inflation are nearly optimal.read more

News shocks and business cycles: bridging the gap from different methodologies
TL;DR: The authors argue that this disconnect can be largely resolved by augmenting a standard DSGE model with a financial channel that provides amplification to news shocks. But they do not consider the impact of news shocks on the future growth of the economy.

Understanding International Long-Term Interest Rate Comovement
TL;DR: In this article, an estimated DSGE model for the UK (vis-`a-vis the US) establishes three structural empirical results: (1) Comovement arises due to nominal fluctuations, not through real rates or term premia.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors provide a theoretical analysis of optimal monetary policy in a small open economy where households set real wage in a staggered fashion and introduce real wage rigidities to resolve main shortcomings of the standard new Keynesian small open market model.

Environmental policies with financing constraints in China

TL;DR: In this paper, Wang et al. studied how borrowing constraints and environmental policies jointly exert their effects on the pollution emission level of China's enterprises using a New Keynesian approach and found significant effects of borrowing constraints on the efficacy of environmental and monetary policies, pointing out the importance of weighing in the borrowing constraints when analyzing environmental protection from an economic angle.
