Structure and stability of Laves phases. Part I. Critical assessment of factors controlling Laves phase stability

TL;DR: In this article, the stability of Laves phases has been investigated and some factors which are known to affect the occurrence and structure type of laves phases are discussed and it is shown that, at least up to now, the existing models and calculations are not well suited to give a general description of the stability.

Laves phases: a review of their functional and structural applications and an improved fundamental understanding of stability and properties

TL;DR: There is a broad range of successful utilization of Laves phases in functional applications including hydrogen storage material (Hydraloy), as magneto-mechanical sensors and actuators (Terfenol), or for wear and corrosion-resistant coatings in corrosive atmospheres and at high temperatures (Tribaloy).

Oxidation of double-glow plasma chromising coating on TC4 titanium alloys

TL;DR: In this paper, double-glow plasma surface chromising was performed on TC4 (Ti-6Al-4V) alloys, and the isothermal oxidation behavior of TC4 was investigated at 650, 750, and 850 ǫ c. The surface treatment caused the formation of a Ti-Cr mutual diffusion layer beneath the alloy surface.

Alloy Design of Intermetallics for Protective Scale Formation and for Use as Precursors for Complex Ceramic Phase Surfaces

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors highlight some evolving new design approaches to developing intermetallic alloys capable of protective scale formation and/or for their use as precursors for functional complex ceramic phase surface synthesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

The effects of uncommon silicides on the oxidation of alloys from the Nb-Cr-Si system

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of Si on the oxidation resistance of Nb-20Cr-(10-42)Si alloys has been studied and compared using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
