Past, Present, and Future of the Scaling Relations of Galaxies and Active Galactic Nuclei

TLDR
In this article, the authors review the properties of scaling relations between galaxies and active galactic nuclei (AGN), focusing on their origin and expected evolution back in time, providing a short history of the most important progresses obtained up to now and discussing the possible future studies.
Abstract
We review the properties of the established Scaling Relations (SRs) of galaxies and active galactic nuclei (AGN), focusing on their origin and expected evolution back in time, providing a short history of the most important progresses obtained up to now and discussing the possible future studies. We also try to connect the observed SRs with the physical mechanisms behind them, examining to what extent current models reproduce the observational data. The emerging picture clarifies the complexity intrinsic to the galaxy formation and evolution process as well as the basic uncertainties still affecting our knowledge of the AGN phenomenon. At the same time, however, it suggests that the detailed analysis of the SRs can profitably contribute to our understanding of galaxies and AGN.

Supersolid-like square- and honeycomb-lattice crystallization of droplets in a dipolar condensate

- 21 Mar 2022 -
TL;DR: In this paper , a supersolid-like spatially periodic square-and honeycomb-lattice crystallization of droplets was demonstrated in a cylindrically symmetric quasi-two-dimensional trapped dipolar condensate, using a beyond-mean-field model including a quantumfluctuation Lee-Huang-Yang type interaction.

The Global Schmidt law in star forming galaxies

TL;DR: In this paper, the Schmidt law was used to model the global star formation law over the full range of gas densities and star formation rates observed in galaxies, and the results showed that the SFR scales with the ratio of the gas density to the average orbital timescale.
