Plate tectonics in the classification of personality disorder: shifting to a dimensional model.

TLDR
It may be time to consider a shift to a dimensional classification of personality disorder that would help address the failures of the existing diagnostic categories as well as contribute to an integration of the psychiatric diagnostic manual with psychology's research on general personality structure.
Abstract
The diagnostic categories of the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders were developed in the spirit of a traditional medical model that considers mental disorders to be qualitatively distinct conditions (see, e.g., American Psychiatric Association, 2000). Work is now beginning on the fifth edition of this influential diagnostic manual. It is perhaps time to consider a fundamental shift in how psychopathology is conceptualized and diagnosed. More specifically, it may be time to consider a shift to a dimensional classification of personality disorder that would help address the failures of the existing diagnostic categories as well as contribute to an integration of the psychiatric diagnostic manual with psychology's research on general personality structure.

A dimensional approach to analyzing lone offender terrorism

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors introduce three dimensions as a starting point for discussion, namely, loneness, direction, and motivation, and attempt to illustrate how these dimensions are linked to key investigative questions as a potential attacker proceeds on a pathway from idea to action.

The child behavior checklist dysregulation profile predicts adolescent DSM-5 pathological personality traits 4 years later

TL;DR: The results showed that children assigned to the CBCL-DP class are at risk for elevated scores on a wide range of DSM-5 personality pathology features, including higher scores on hostility, risk taking, deceitfulness, callousness, grandiosity, irresponsibility, impulsivity and manipulativeness.

A critique of the proposed prototype rating system for personality disorders in DSM-5.

TL;DR: If the prototype matching dimensional approach described in the DSM-5 draft proposal is adopted, then it will have been adopted with essentially no empirical support demonstrating improved reliability or validity.

Performing Taxometric Analysis to Distinguish Categorical and Dimensional Variables.

TL;DR: A practical introduction to the taxometric method is provided, updating earlier tutorials based on the findings of recent methodological studies, and revised guidelines for data requirements, indicator selection, parameter estimation, and procedure selection and implementation are offered.

Differentiating Categories and Dimensions: Evaluating the Robustness of Taxometric Analyses.

TL;DR: The impressive accuracy of the CCFI was consistent with prior findings and robust across novel manipulations of asymmetry, tail weight, and heterogeneous variances, as well as the practical implications for differentiating categories and dimensions.

Construct validity in psychological tests.

TL;DR: The present interpretation of construct validity is not "official" and deals with some areas where the Committee would probably not be unanimous, but the present writers are solely responsible for this attempt to explain the concept and elaborate its implications.
