Implementation of Bar-code Technology in a Tree Fruit Breeding Program

TL;DR: Inventory control of trees and fruit samples in the Washington State University apple breeding program has been simplified by the use of bar codes, which improve the efficiency of the program by greatly reducing the risk of errors.

Genetic characterization of the Ma locus with pH and titratable acidity in apple

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the genetic and molecular basis of apple fruit acidity, fruit juice pH and/or titratable acidity (TA) in two half-sib populations GMAL 4595 (Royal Gala 9 PI (Plant Introduction) 613988) and MGAL 4590 (Gala 9 PI 613971) of 438 trees in total.
Journal ArticleDOI

Genomewide selection for fruit quality traits in apple: breeding insights gained from prediction and postdiction

TL;DR: In this article , a study was conducted to determine if genomewide prediction is an effective breeding approach for fruit quality traits in an apple scion breeding program, and the results demonstrated that genomewideside selection is a useful breeding method for certain fruit quality trait in apple.
Journal ArticleDOI

Xylem Functionality Is Not a Direct Indicator of Apple Preharvest Fruit Drop

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors evaluated xylem functionality in the fruit cortex to determine whether loss in xylems functionality can be used as an indicator of preharvest fruit drop potential.
Journal ArticleDOI

Converting Tall Spindle Apple Trees to Narrow Walls with Summer and Dormant Hedging Plus Root Pruning

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors used four management practices (tall spindle, narrow tree wall with manual pruning, narrow wall with dormant and summer hedging, and narrow tree walls with seasonal hedging and root pruning) to convert 12-year-old "Brak Fuji" apple trees from the tall spindle training system to a narrow wall.
