MonographDOI
The Biomarker Guide
TL;DR: The second edition of The Biomarker Guide as mentioned in this paper provides a comprehensive account of the role that biomarker technology plays both in petroleum exploration and in understanding Earth history and processes.

δ13C Measurements as Indicators of Carbon Flow in Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems
B. Fry,E. B. Sherr +1 more
TL;DR: Stable isotope ratios provide clues about the origins and transformations of organic matter and have been used as a tool for understanding complex ecological processes as mentioned in this paper, which has prompted increasing use of stable isotope analyses as a method to understand complex biological processes.

Comparison of stable isotope reference samples
TL;DR: In this article, the mass-spectrometric analysis of these and other reference samples in a single laboratory to minimize interlaboratory calibration errors is reported, and an improved equation for relating the PDB isotope scale (belemnite from the Peedee Formation of South Carolina adopted in the 1950s as a reference in palaeotemperature studies) to the V-SMOW (Vienna-Standard Mean Ocean Water) scale is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stable Carbon Isotope Compositions of Crude Oils: Application to Source Depositional Environments and Petroleum Alteration
TL;DR: In this paper, the carbon isotopic composition of the C15+ aromatic hydrocarbon fractions of oils sourced from terrigenous or marine organic matter are identical. But the difference between the two equations was evaluated statistically and a statistical parameter, CV (the canonical variable), CV = -2.65, was used to distinguish between marine and terrenous oils.

The geochemistry of the stable carbon isotopes
TL;DR: A survey of the variation of the ratio C13/C12 in nature can be found in this paper, where Urey and his co-workers used two complete feed systems with magnetic switching to determine small differences in isotope ratios between samples and a standard gas.
