TLDR
The results show the capability of the proposed resilience framework in quantifying the detrimental effects of structural deterioration at the network scale and the beneficial consequences of infrastructure investments, such as enhancing the network redundancy with the construction of an additional highway branch.
Abstract
This paper presents a probabilistic framework for life-cycle seismic resilience assessment of aging bridges and transportation road networks subjected to infrastructure upgrade. The proposed framew...

Corrosion of steel by concrete

A C Smith
- 01 Jan 1982 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the reactions of various concretes on steel reinforcement and concluded that the most significant influences on the corrosion of prestressing wire in concrete are: the presence of chloride, presence of nitrates, the composition of concrete, the degree of carbonation of the concrete; concrete compaction and chlorides and sulphates should be used as far as possible when steel is embedded.

Assessment of lifetime seismic resilience of a long-span cable-stayed bridge exposed to structural corrosion

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors proposed a probabilistic methodology for evaluating the lifetime seismic resilience of a cable-stayed bridge considering the effect of structural corrosion, including the corrosion of steel bars, reduction of concrete strength, and corrosion of high-strength stay cables, and the nonlinear static analysis was conducted to directly relate the reduced seismic capacities with the predefined damage states to facilitate seismic fragility analysis.

Seismic vulnerability assessment of ageing reinforced concrete structures under real mainshock-aftershock ground motions

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a framework to assess the vulnerability of Reinforced Concrete (RC) frames subject to real Mainshock-Aftershock (MS-AS) ground motion sequences.

A framework to link community long-term resilience goals to seismic performance of individual buildings using network-based recovery modeling method

TL;DR: Simulation results demonstrate that the framework is effective to link the proposed long-term resilience indicator to the seismic performance of individual buildings and it highlights the importance of considering the interdependence between infrastructure systems in community resilience assessment.

Incremental dynamic analysis

TL;DR: Incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) is a parametric analysis method that has recently emerged in several different forms to estimate more thoroughly structural performance under seismic loads as mentioned in this paper, which involves subjecting a structural model to one or more ground motion record(s), each scaled to multiple levels of intensity, thus producing one (or more) curve(s) of response parameterized versus intensity level.
