Axial tumor site, male sex, and a long history of symptoms were associated with poor response to chemotherapy in univariate and multivariate analysis.Abstract:
PURPOSE: To define prognostic factors for response and long-term outcome for a wide spectrum of osteosarcomas, extending well beyond those of the typical young patient with seemingly localized extremity disease. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A total of 1,702 consecutive newly diagnosed patients with high-grade osteosarcoma of the trunk or limbs registered into the neoadjuvant studies of the Cooperative Osteosarcoma Study Group before July 1998 were entered into an analysis of demographic, tumor-related, and treatment-related variables, response, and survival. The intended therapeutic strategy included preoperative and postoperative chemotherapy with multiple agents as well as surgery of all operable lesions. RESULTS: Axial tumor site, male sex, and a long history of symptoms were associated with poor response to chemotherapy in univariate and multivariate analysis. Actuarial 10-year overall and event-free survival rates were 59.8% and 48.9%. Among the variables assessable at diagnosis, patient age (actuarial 10-y...read more

Clinical characteristics and prognosis of osteosarcoma in young children: a retrospective series of 15 cases
Maud A M Guillon,Pierre Mary,Laurence Brugiere,Perrine Marec-Berard,Hélène Pacquement,Claudine Schmitt,Jean-Marc Guinebretière,Marie-Dominique Tabone +7 more
TL;DR: Osteosarcoma seems to be more aggressive in children under five years of age, and surgical management remains a challange, with conflicting results being recently reported regarding their prognosis.

Sirtuin 6 contributes to migration and invasion of osteosarcoma cells via the ERK1/2/MMP9 pathway
TL;DR: Results suggest that SIRT6 may act as a prognostic predictor and a drug target for OS patients, and up‐regulated expression of matrix metallopeptidase 9 (MMP9) in OS cells.

Osteosarcoma in children 5 years of age or younger at initial diagnosis.
TL;DR: Since osteosarcoma is extremely rare in children ≤5 years of age, it is sought to investigate if tumor characteristics, treatment strategies, and outcomes differ compared to older patients.

Regenerative therapy with mesenchymal stem cells at the site of malignant primary bone tumour resection: what are the risks of early or late local recurrence?

TL;DR: This study found no increased cancer local recurrence risk in patients after application of autologous cell-based therapy using bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells at the treatment site after an average follow-up period of 15.4 years, ranging from ten to 20 years.

Curcumin and Osteosarcoma: Can Invertible Polymeric Micelles Help?
TL;DR: The potential of micellar assemblies from responsive macromolecules in a controlled delivery of curcumin to osteosarcoma cells, and the release using a new inversion mechanism is revealed.

Nonparametric Estimation from Incomplete Observations

TL;DR: In this article, the product-limit (PL) estimator was proposed to estimate the proportion of items in the population whose lifetimes would exceed t (in the absence of such losses), without making any assumption about the form of the function P(t).

Regression Models and Life-Tables
TL;DR: The analysis of censored failure times is considered in this paper, where the hazard function is taken to be a function of the explanatory variables and unknown regression coefficients multiplied by an arbitrary and unknown function of time.

Underrepresentation of patients 65 years of age or older in cancer-treatment trials.
TL;DR: There is substantial under representation of patients 65 years of age or older in studies of treatment for cancer, and the reasons should be clarified, and policies adopted to correct this underrepresentation.
