TLDR
Administration of propolis 2 h before injection of EAC arrested cells in G0/G1 phase resulted in a decrease in the viability, DNA, total RNA and protein level of tumor cells, indicating a strong inhibitory activity against tumors.

Journal ArticleDOI

Antiviral activity and mode of action of propolis extracts and selected compounds.

TL;DR: Both propolis extracts exhibited high anti‐HSV‐1 activity when the viruses were pretreated with these drugs prior to infection and the extracts containing many different components exhibited significantly higher antiherpetic effects as well as higher selectivity indices than single isolated constituents.
Journal ArticleDOI

The anticancer activity of propolis.

TL;DR: The results of in vitro and in vivo studies suggest that propolis, CAPE and chrysin may inhibit tumor cell progression and may be useful as potential chemotherapeutic or chemopreventive anticancer drugs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanism of herpes simplex virus type 2 suppression by propolis extracts.

TL;DR: Both propolis extracts exhibited high levels of antiviral activity against HSV-2 in viral suspension tests, infectivity was significantly reduced by >99% and a direct concentration- and time-dependent antiherpetic activity could be demonstrated for both extracts.
Journal ArticleDOI

Therapeutic effect of paclitaxel and propolis on lipid peroxidation and antioxidant system in 7,12 dimethyl benz(a)anthracene-induced breast cancer in female Sprague Dawley rats.

TL;DR: Propolis is a potent antioxidant and, when given in combination with paclitaxel, offers maximum protection against DMBA induced mammary carcinogenesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Chemical composition of the ethanolic propolis extracts and its effect on HeLa cells.

TL;DR: The aim of this study was to assess cytotoxic effect of various ethanol propolis extractions on the cervical tumor cell line (HeLa) and compare it with their phenolic acids and flavonoids composition and establish the possible synergistic antiproliferative activity of individual phenolic acid and flav onoids.

Assay for lipid peroxides in animal tissues by thiobarbituric acid reaction

TL;DR: Using this method, the liped peroxide level in the liver of rats suffering from carbon tetrachloride intoxication was investigated and was in good agreement with previously reported data obtained by measuring diene content.
Journal ArticleDOI

Glutathione S-transferases. The first enzymatic step in mercapturic acid formation.

TL;DR: The purification of homogeneous glutathione S-transferases B and C from rat liver is described, and only transferases A and C are immunologically related.
Journal ArticleDOI

Flavonoids, a class of natural products of high pharmacological potency

TL;DR: The few existing reports on the careful pharmacodynamic, pharmacokinetic and clinical studies which have been made have been summarized to provide a basis for a full-scale investigation of the therapeutic potential of flavonoids.
