Purification and properties of collagen proline hydroxylase from newborn rat skin.

TLDR
Proline hydroxylase and α-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase, which catalyze similar reactions, do not appear to be related enzymologically in that proline hydoxylase does not exhibit a visible spectrum, contains no thiamine pyrophosphate, and does not require any of the cofactors necessary for α.

Ascorbic acid: much more than just an antioxidant.

TL;DR: The present paper has tried to bring to the foreground some of the peculiarities of the AA biosynthetic pathway in different organisms, the remarkable function of AA as a co-substrate of many important dioxygenases, the role of AA-regenerating enzymes and the known pathways of AA catabolism.

Posttranslational enzymes in the biosynthesis of collagen: intracellular enzymes.

TL;DR: This chapter describes the assay, purification, and properties of the enzymes catalyzing the unique intracellular modifications—i.e., the hydroxylases and hydroxylysyl glycosyltransferases.
Journal ArticleDOI

The biosynthesis of collagen. 1.

TL;DR: Micro-Heterogeneity in the Biosynthesis of Collagen Detailed analyses of the structure of the polypeptide chains of collagen has revealed a "micro-heterogeneity" of the amino acid sequences.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hepatic fibrosis. Correlation of biochemical and morphologic investigations

TL;DR: Hepatic fibrosis probably stimulated by hepatocellular injury may, in turn, damage the hepatic parenchyma, and this may be more important in the self-perpetuation of liver injury than the immunologic components of hepatic inflammation.

A Method for Determining the Sedimentation Behavior of Enzymes: Application to Protein Mixtures

TL;DR: Sucrose gradient centrifugation is found to be a suitable method for determining sedimentation coefficients of enzymes in protein mixtures and the sedimentation behavior of several of the enzymes in the pathway of histidine biosynthesis in S. typhimurium has been determined.
