Journal ArticleDOI

A novel endo-beta -1,3-glucanase, bgn13.1, involved in the mycoparasitism of trichoderma harzianum

TL;DR: Sequence comparison shows that this beta-1,3-glucanase, first described for filamentous fungi, belongs to a family different from that of its previously described bacterial, yeast, and plant counterparts.
Journal ArticleDOI

Characterization of a chitinase and an endo-β-1,3-glucanase from Trichoderma harzianum Rifai T24 involved in control of the phytopathogen Sclerotium rolfsii

TL;DR: Of 24 Trichoderma isolates, T. harzianum Rifai (T24) showed a potential for control of the phytopathogenic basidiomycete Sclerotium rolfsii when T24 was grown on different carbon sources, growth inhibition by the T24 culture filtrate correlated with the activity of extracellular chitinase and β-1,3-glucanase.
Journal ArticleDOI

Noncellulolytic fungal β-glucanases: Their physiology and regulation

TL;DR: The occurrence, regulation, and action of fungal enzymes capable of degrading noncellulosic β-glucans, especially 1,3-β- and 1,6-β, are reviewed, with some of the properties of purified β- glucanases discussed in terms of their potential applications in industrial, agricultural, and medical fields.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analysis of the β-1,3-Glucanolytic System of the Biocontrol Agent Trichoderma harzianum

TL;DR: The properties of this complex group of enzymes suggest that the enzymes might play different roles in host cell wall lysis during mycoparasitism, and glucose appears to inhibit the formation of all of the inducible β-1,3-glucanases detected.
