Quality factor estimation of JPEG compressed images

TLDR
A new approach to estimate the quality factor value for a JPEG image based on the statistical model of variance of blocks 8 × 8 for JPEG images, characterized by two parameters which are used to calculate a distance between the first and the second compressions.
Abstract
The goal of the paper is to present a new approach to estimate the quality factor value for a JPEG image. This approach is based on the statistical model of variance of blocks 8 × 8 for JPEG images. The variance model follows Gamma distribution, characterized by two parameters which are used to calculate a distance between the first and the second compressions. The distance in case of compressing images twice with the same value of quality factor is exploited as characterized fingerprint for quality factor identification of a JPEG image. Experiments with simulated and real images highlight the relevance of the proposed approach.

A watermarking technique to secure printed QR codes using a statistical test

TL;DR: In this article, a secure printed QR code which is robust against Scan & Reprint attack is presented, which replaces the background of the standard one by a specific textured pattern which does not affect the normal reading of the encoded message.

The distribution of the sum of independent gamma random variables

TL;DR: In this paper, the distribution of the sum of n independent gamma variates with different parameters is expressed as a single gamma-series whose coefficients are computed by simple recursive relations, and the distribution is expressed in terms of a simple recursive relation.
