Recovery of a pantothenate auxotroph from a cell suspension culture of Datura innoxia mill

TLDR
Although the pantothenate-requiring cell line appears to be largely tetraploid ( 4n = 48 ), date are presented to show that it could have arisen from single, haploid cells.

Vitamin B biosynthesis in plants.

TL;DR: The vitamin B complex comprises water-soluble enzyme cofactors and their derivatives that are essential contributors to diverse metabolic processes in plants as well as in animals and microorganisms.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biosynthesis of pantothenate

TL;DR: Pantothenate is an essential metabolite for all biological systems, however, the biosynthetic pathway is limited to plants, eubacteria and archaea, which suggests that the pathway is a strong candidate for the discovery of novel antibiotic and herbicidal compounds.

Isoleucine-requiring Nicotiana plant deficient in threonine deaminase

TL;DR: The isolation of an isoleucine-requiring line from haploid cell cultures of Nicotiana plumbaginifolia and the regeneration of diploid plants with no detectable activity of L-threonine deaminase (EC 4.2.1.16), the first enzyme in isoleUCine biosynthesis.

The isolation and preliminary characterisation of auxotrophic and analogue resistant mutants of the moss, Physcomitrella patens

TL;DR: A diploid strain has been obtained by aposporus regeneration from a hybrid sporophyte and the phenotypes of progeny resulting from the self-fertilisation of this strain have been analysed.

Isolation and characterization of cell lines of Nicotiana tabacum lacking nitrate reductase

TL;DR: Differences between the NR-negative mutants with respect to chlorate resistance suggest that chlorate inhibits cultured N tabacum cells not only via its NR-catalysed conversion to chlorite, but also by NR-independent mechanisms.

Induction and Isolation of Auxotrophic Mutants in Somatic Cell Cultures of Nicotiana tabacum

TL;DR: A method for the selection of auxotrophic mutants from somatic cell cultures of Nicotiana tabacum depends upon the incorporation of 5-bromodeoxyuridine into the DNA of wild-type cells and upon its lack of incorporation into theDNA of Auxotrophic cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

The induction of biochemical and morphological mutants in the moss physcomitrella patens

TL;DR: The selfsterility of the para-aminobenzoic acid-requiring mutant appears to be pleiotropically related to the auxotrophic condition, since self-sterility does not segregate from nutritional dependence in progeny of crosses.
