TLDR
Sensitive optical techniques were adapted to the ganglion in order to study the control state of the respiratory chain and the energy supply of the Ganglion from the mitochondrial and/or cytosolic compartments during transitions from the resting to the active ( stimulated) state.

Mitochondrial function in vivo evaluated by NADH fluorescence: from animal models to human studies.

TL;DR: The goals of the present review are to provide an historical overview of NADH fluorescence monitoring and its physiological significance, to present the solid scientific ground underlying NADHfluorescence measurements based on published materials, and to provide basic information on the methodologies used in the past and the current state of the art fluorometers.

Interaction between Astrocytes and Neurons Studied using a Mathematical Model of Compartmentalized Energy Metabolism

TL;DR: A mathematical model of compartmentalized energy metabolism between neurons and astrocytes is developed, showing that current experimental data on lactate kinetics are compatible with the ANLS hypothesis, and that it is essential to assess the neuronal andAstrocytic NADH/NAD+ ratio changes to test the AN LS hypothesis.

NAD(P)H fluorescence transients after synaptic activity in brain slices: predominant role of mitochondrial function.

TL;DR: The results suggest that NAD(P)H transients report mitochondrial dynamics, rather than recruitment of glycolytic metabolism, over a wide range of stimulus intensities.

Control of the redox state of the pyridine nucleotides in the rat cerebral cortex. Effect of electroshock-induced seizures.

TL;DR: The concentrations of most of the intermediates of glycolysis and of the tricarboxylic acid cycle were determined in the cerebral cortex of rats, frozen 10 s after the induction of a generalized seizure by electroshock, and this system remained close to equilibrium.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of carbohydrates upon fluorescence of reduced pyridine nucleotides from perifused isolated pancreatic islets.

TL;DR: It is concluded that D-glucose leads to the increase of NAD(P)H-fluorescence by mediation of the phosphoglyceraldehyde dehydrogenase reaction.

Speer Carbon Resistors as Thermometers for Use Below 1°K

TL;DR: In this paper, a survey of the properties of certain resistors made by the Speer Carbon Company to determine whether they might be suitable for resistance thermometry below 1°K was made.

Reduction kinetics and content of cytochrome P-450 by application of dual wavelength techniques to hemoglobin-free perfused rat liver

TL;DR: For a better understanding of the function of the CO-binding pigment, cytochrome P-450, more basic knowledge of its properties is required.
