Renewable energy, nuclear energy, and environmental pollution: Accounting for political institutional quality in South Africa

TLDR
Evidence from the study reveals that political institutional quality plays a huge role in the social, governance and economic readiness to mitigate climate change and its impact, and structural adjustment in disaggregate and aggregate energy consumption, economic growth, and political institutionalquality play a critical role in environmental quality.

Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of foreign direct investments, economic development and energy consumption on greenhouse gas emissions in developing countries

TL;DR: The study found a strong positive effect of energy consumption on greenhouse gas emissions and confirmed the validity of the pollution haven hypothesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Investigation of Environmental Kuznets Curve for Ecological Footprint: The Role of Energy and Financial Development

TL;DR: This study investigated the relationship between economic growth, energy consumption, financial development, and ecological footprint for the period from 1977 to 2013 in 11 newly industrialized countries and concluded that there is bi-directional causality betweenEconomic growth and ecological footprints.
Journal ArticleDOI

Determinants of the ecological footprint: Role of renewable energy, natural resources, and urbanization

TL;DR: In this article, the authors explored the relationship between real income, renewable energy, urbanization, natural resource rent, and ecological footprint in BRICS economies and developed important policy implications for BRICS countries to achieve sustainable development targets.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of natural resources, renewable energy and economic development on CO2 emissions in BRICS countries.

TL;DR: Abundance of natural resources mitigates CO2 emission in Russia, but contributes to pollution in South Africa, and natural resources help to form Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) hypothesis in Brazil, China, Russia, and South Africa.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dynamic impact of trade policy, economic growth, fertility rate, renewable and non-renewable energy consumption on ecological footprint in Europe.

TL;DR: The PMG-ARDL analysis confirmed the role of non-renewable energy consumption in depleting environmental quality while renewable energy consumption was found to improve environmental sustainability, and the unexpected long-run fertility-ecological footprint nexus was connected with the divergent fertility rate information of the EU member countries.

Testing for a Unit Root in Time Series Regression

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed new tests for detecting the presence of a unit root in quite general time series models, which accommodate models with a fitted drift and a time trend so that they may be used to discriminate between unit root nonstationarity and stationarity about a deterministic trend.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bounds testing approaches to the analysis of level relationships

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors developed a new approach to the problem of testing the existence of a level relationship between a dependent variable and a set of regressors, when it is not known with certainty whether the underlying regressors are trend- or first-difference stationary.

An Autoregressive Distributed-Lag Modelling Approach to Cointegration Analysis

TL;DR: This article examined the use of autoregressive distributed lag (ARDL) models for the analysis of long-run relations when the underlying variables are I(1) and I(0) regressors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Techniques for Testing the Constancy of Regression Relationships Over Time

TL;DR: In this paper, the stability over time of regression relationships is investigated using recursive residuals, defined to be uncorrelated with zero means and constant variance, and tests based on the cusum and cusume of squares of recursive residual coefficients are developed.
Journal ArticleDOI

A review of renewable energy sources, sustainability issues and climate change mitigation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reviewed the opportunities associated with renewable energy sources which include: Energy Security, Energy Access, Social and Economic development, Climate Change Mitigation, and reduction of environmental and health impacts.
