Simulation, Microfabrication, and Control of a Microheater Array

TLDR
In this article, the authors describe the simulation, fabrication, and feedback control of a microheater array designed for the implementation of real-time control during thermal evolution of microstructure.
Abstract
This paper describes the simulation, fabrication, and feedback control of a microheater array designed for the implementation of real-time control during thermal evolution of microstructure. The ten-channel heating array was designed through finite element simulation and microfabricated to be compatible with in situ imaging in a scanning electron microscope. Control algorithms are implemented that demonstrate cooperative control of the temperature (using calibrated Ti heater line resistances as a proxy) across the set of channels in the array. The goal of this system is to be able to generate controlled thermal, and thus microstructural, and property distribution during processing of polycrystalline materials.

Vector Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Forms: A Unified Approach (5th edition)

TL;DR: The 5th edition as discussed by the authors contains all the things that made the earlier editions different from other textbooks, including integrating linear algebra and multivariable calculus, using effective algorithms to prove the main theorems (Newton's method and the implicit function theorem, for instance) and a new approach to both Riemann integration and Lebesgue integration.

Optimization of temperature uniformity of a serpentine thin film heater by a two-dimensional approach

TL;DR: In this article, a two-step method is proposed to optimize the layout of the conventional serpentine film heater thus to improve the temperature uniformity, and the optimization is made on transverse direction firstly with varied linewidths and pitches, and then on longitudinal direction with varied line shapes.

Coherence in Large-Scale Networks: Dimension-Dependent Limitations of Local Feedback

TL;DR: It is shown that it is impossible to have large coherent 1-D vehicular platoons with only local feedback, and that in low spatial dimensions, local feedback is unable to regulate large-scale disturbances, but it can in higher spatial dimensions.

A Review of Heating and Temperature Control in Microfluidic Systems: Techniques and Applications

TL;DR: This review presents an overview of the different techniques developed over the last decade to regulate the temperature within microfluidic systems, and examines some recent strategies developed for applications such as digital microfluidity, where integration of a heating source to generate a temperature gradient offers control of a key parameter, without necessarily requiring great accuracy.

Thermocapillary actuation of droplet in a planar microchannel

TL;DR: In this paper, a thermocapillary actuation of liquid droplet in a planar microchannel has been carried out by both theoretical modeling and experimental characterization, where the driving temperature gradients are provided by four heaters at the channel boundaries.
