TLDR
It is shown that the spectral properties of the Maury matrix characterize the flow asymmetry in lung airway networks more concisely than the Laplacian modes, and that eigenvector centrality in theMaury spectrum is closely related to the phenomenon of ventilation heterogeneity caused by airway narrowing or obstruction.
Abstract
This paper introduces a linear operator for the purposes of quantifying the spectral properties of transport within resistive trees, such as airflow in lung airway networks. The operator, which we ...

Investigating the Upstream and Downstream Hemodynamic Boundary Conditions of Healthy and Growth-Restricted Rat Feto-Placental Arterial Networks

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a robust framework consisting of ex vivo placental casting, imaging and computational fluid dynamics of rat feto-placental networks where they investigate inlet (steady and transient) and outlet (zero-pressure, Murray's Law, asymmetric fractal trees and porous blocks) boundary conditions in a model of growth-restriction.

Numerical modelling and analysis of peripheral airway asymmetry and ventilation in the human adult lung

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the effects of airway asymmetry and heterogeneous interregional ventilation on the phase III slope in multibreath washout in the human adult lung.

Micro-haemodynamics at the maternal–fetal interface: experimental, theoretical and clinical perspectives

TL;DR: The placenta is a vital interface between the mother and her developing fetus, where the particulate nature of blood flow cannot be ignored, mediating the relationship between the organ's structure and its function as mentioned in this paper .

Model-based Bayesian inference of the ventilation distribution in patients with cystic fibrosis from multiple breath washout, with comparison to ventilation MRI

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors reported the prediction of ventilation distributions from multiple breath washout (MBW) data using a mathematical model, and the comparison of these predictions with imaging data.

The role of mathematical models in designing mechanopharmacological therapies for asthma

TL;DR: How a multiscale mathematical model of acute bronchoconstriction in an airway could be exploited to propose new mechanopharmacological therapies for asthma and other respiratory diseases is demonstrated.

Spectra of graphs

TL;DR: This book gives an elementary treatment of the basic material about graph Spectra, both for ordinary, and Laplace and Seidel spectra, by covering standard topics before presenting some new material on trees, strongly regular graphs, two-graphs, association schemes, p-ranks of configurations and similar topics.

Spectral Graph Theory and its Applications

TL;DR: This tutorial will try to provide some intuition as to why these eigenvectors and eigenvalues have combinatorial significance, and will sitn'ey some of their applications.
