Structural and magnetic studies on heavy-metal-adsorbing iron sulphide nanoparticles produced by sulphate-reducing bacteria

TLDR
In this paper, the structure of weakly magnetic and strongly magnetic iron sulphide was examined using high-resolution imaging and electron diffraction in a transmission electron microscope (TEM), the measurements of magnetisation versus field and temperature, extended X-ray absorption fine-structure (EXAFS) spectroscopy and neutron diffraction.

Metals, minerals and microbes: geomicrobiology and bioremediation

TL;DR: The ubiquity and importance of microbes in biosphere processes make geomicrobiology one of the most important concepts within microbiology, and one requiring an interdisciplinary approach to define environmental and applied significance and underpin exploitation in biotechnology.

Removal and recovery of Cr(VI) from wastewater by maghemite nanoparticles

TL;DR: Competition from common coexisting ions such as Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, NO3-, and Cl- was ignorable, which illustrated the selective adsorption of Cr(VI) from wastewater.

Interactions of Dissolved Organic Matter with Natural and Engineered Inorganic Colloids: A Review

TL;DR: If traditional approaches based on the DLVO-theory can be useful in specific cases, quantitative aggregation models taking into account DOM dynamics, bridging, and disaggregation are needed for a comprehensive modeling of colloids stability in natural media.

Acid volatile sulfide (AVS)

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that acid volatile sulfide (AVS) is not equivalent to FeS and solid FeS phases have rarely been identified in marine sediments.

Effects of Electron-Electron and Electron-Phonon Interactions on the One-Electron States of Solids

TL;DR: In this article, the crystal potential of the Fermi liquid is discussed and the potential from the ion cores as well as from the valence electrons, and schemes that incorporate essential exchange and correlation effects for the electrons are discussed.
