Studies on the Biological Properties of Polyene Antibiotics EVIDENCE FOR THE DIRECT INTERACTION OF FILIPIN WITH CHOLESTEROL

TLDR
The results suggest that filipin can interact stoichiometrically with cholesterol and that in membrane systems this interaction is capable of altering some of the physical properties of the membrane, thus providing a basis for Filipin-induced changes in membrane permeability.

CNS synaptogenesis promoted by glia-derived cholesterol

TL;DR: Cholesterol complexed to apolipoprotein E-containing lipoproteins may explain the delayed onset of CNS synaptogenesis after glia differentiation and neurobehavioral manifestations of defects in cholesterol or lipoprotein homeostasis.

Polyene antibiotic-sterol interactions in membranes of Acholeplasma laidlawii cells and lecithin liposomes. III. Molecular structure of the polyene antibiotic-cholesterol complexes

TL;DR: Mechanisms of the polyene antibiotic induced permeability changes in membranes are proposed based on the analysis of the complexes of cholesterol, amphotericin B, nystatin, etruscomycin and pimaricin, which can be built with space-filling models.

Intracellular cholesterol transport

TL;DR: Liscum et al. as mentioned in this paper reviewed the current knowledge of cholesterol transport mecha- nisms and pathways and have described approaches that may help define cholesterol trafficking mechanisms in molecular de- tail.

Studies on lecithin-cholesterol-water interactions by differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction

TL;DR: The cholesterol controls the fluidity of the hydrocarbon chains of the phospholipid by disruption of the crystalline chain lattice of the gel phase, and by inhibiting the flexing of chains in the dispersed liquid crystalline phase.
