Subcellular distribution and properties of 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase in pregnant rabbit uterus

TLDR
It was found that the 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase was mainly located in mitochondrial, microsomal and cytoplasmic fractions, and NADP was more efficient than NAD as cofactor.

Studies on the involvement of lysosomes in estrogen action, III. The dehydrogenation of estradiol to estrone by porcine endometrial lysosomes.

TL;DR: Endometrial cells from prepuberal pigs contain an estradiol 17 beta-dehydrogenase that appears to be exclusively associated with a subpopulation of lysosomes and displays a high affinity for estradio with a Km = 5 x 10(-7) mol/l.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of progestins, estradiol, and coenzymes NAD and NADPH on the interconversion of estradiol and estrone in rabbit uterus in vitro.

TL;DR: It is suggested that the hormone-induced metabolism of estradiol and estrone in the rabbit uterus is essentially modulated by the availability of coenzymes.

17β-Oxidation of estradiol and testosterone in the human testis

TL;DR: The human testis may counteract some of the deleterious effects of 17β-estradiol on androgen biosynthesis by metabolizing it to a weaker estrogen, in a reaction which probably is not inhibited by high testicular testosterone concentrations.

Solubilization of 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase from rat liver microsomes

TL;DR: The solubilization of 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase from a rat liver microsomal preparation with the non-ionic detergent Triton X-100 resulted in a soluble fraction that contained 80% of the proteins and 75%" of the enzymatic activity of initial microsomes.

Further characterization of 17 β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase activity in cultured myometrial cells: cofactor dependency and subcellular localization

TL;DR: The addition of an excess (1000 microM) of NAD+ to the incubation medium prevented the progressive decline observed with time in a given subculture in the intact cell monolayer assay, supporting the previous hypothesis that this decline was due to cofactor depletion.

Protein Measurement with the Folin Phenol Reagent

TL;DR: Procedures are described for measuring protein in solution or after precipitation with acids or other agents, and for the determination of as little as 0.2 gamma of protein.

A study of the conditions and mechanism of the diphenylamine reaction for the colorimetric estimation of deoxyribonucleic acid

TL;DR: The present study arose from the observation that a more intense colour was sometimes produced if, instead of being heated at 1000 for 10 min., the reaction mixture was allowed to stand overnight at room temperature.

Enzymatic properties of the inner and outer membranes of rat liver mitochondria

TL;DR: The inner membrane-matrix fraction retained a high degree of morphological and biochemical integrity and exhibited a high respiratory rate and respiratory control when assayed in a sucrose-mannitol medium containing EDTA.

Determination of nucleic acids in animal tissues

TL;DR: A modification of the Barrenscheen and Peham method for ribose determination with orcinol was worked out in order to determine pentose nucleic acid (PNA) in the same organ extracts, which permitted the evaluation of DNA in amounts as small as 2.5 y per ml.
