Abstract
THE brief article by Dr. Bullard entitled “Geophysical Study of Submarine Geology” which appeared in NATURE of May 18, p. 764, was gratifying in that it directed attention to some of the developments in the newest field of geological research. On the other hand, this article showed a pardonable lack of familiarity with many developments, particularly with work along the California coast carried on with the facilities of the Scripps Institution. Since the tentative conclusions suggested by Dr. Bullard are in no way confirmed by these investigations, a brief summary of the work and its implications might prove of interest to the readers of NATURE. To date only brief summaries of this work have been published, but forthcoming publications by the Geological Society of America can be consulted for amplification.

Ecology and Applications of Benthic Foraminifera

TL;DR: This book presents the ecological background required to explain how fossil forms are used in dating rocks and reconstructing past environmental features including changes of sea level and demonstrates how living foraminifera can be used to monitor modern-day environmental change.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Troodos Massif, Cyprus and other Ophiolites as Oceanic Crust: Evaluation and Implications

TL;DR: The Troodos Massif as discussed by the authors consists of a pseudostratiform mass of harzburgite, dunite, pyroxenite, gabbro, quartz diorite, diabase and pillow lava arranged in a dome-like manner.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Messinian Salinity Crisis: Past and future of a great challenge for marine sciences

TL;DR: In this paper, a unifying stratigraphic framework of the Messinian Salinity Crisis (MSC) events has been constructed, derived mainly from onshore data and observations, but incorporating different perspectives for the offshore and provides hypotheses that can be tested by drilling the deep Mediterranean basins.
Journal ArticleDOI

The nature and distribution of Messinian erosional surfaces — Indicators of a several-kilometer-deep Mediterranean in the Miocene☆

TL;DR: In this article, the authors focused on Messinian-age erosional surfaces created by evaporitic drawdown of an isolated Mediterranean Sea and detected as discordances in seismic reflection profiles.

Sinuous deep-water channels: Genesis, geometry and architecture

TL;DR: The most detailed studies relating to sinuous channels in the subsurface originate from offshore west Africa, where channels typically occur within incisional (confined) slope-channel complexes and often represent the latter stages of channel complex fill as mentioned in this paper.
