Numerical analysis of arc and droplet behaviors in gas metal arc welding with external compound magnetic field

TL;DR: In this article, a self-designed external compound magnetic field assisted gas metal arc welding process was developed to suppress the weld bead defects in high-speed welding, where the external magnetic field increased the metal transfer frequency and decreased the size of the droplet.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanism investigation of the influence of the magnetic field on the molten pool behavior during laser welding of aluminum alloy

TL;DR: In this article, the effect of the magnetic field on the weld profile of aluminum alloy laser welding was investigated, and it was found that magnetic field can suppress both the lower-to-upper region and center-toedge molten flows of the molten pool.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental research on formation mechanism of porosity in magnetic field assisted laser welding of steel

TL;DR: In this paper, the keyhole behaviors are directly observed in laser welding of AH36 steel/glass, and Zirconia particle is used to observe the convective pattern.
Journal ArticleDOI

Numerical investigation on the effect of process parameters on arc and metal transfer in magnetically controlled gas metal arc welding

TL;DR: In this paper, a three dimensional numerical model including the interactions among the arc plasma, filler metal and the external magnetic field was developed, and the distributions of some physical quantities including temperature, velocity, current density, arc plasma force and electromagnetic force were calculated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of interwire angle on undercutting formation and arc behavior in pulsed tandem narrow-gap GMAW

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of interwire angle on the welding process stability and arc behavior were investigated in tandem narrow-gap gas metal arc welding, where the authors adopted the tandem narrow gap gas arc welding was adopted in this study.

On the role of melt flow into the surface structure and porosity development during selective laser melting

TL;DR: In this paper, the development of surface structure and porosity of Ti-6Al-4V samples fabricated by selective laser melting under different laser scanning speeds and powder layer thicknesses has been studied and correlated with the melt flow behavior through both experimental and modelling approaches.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analysis of laser–melt pool–powder bed interaction during the selective laser melting of a stainless steel

TL;DR: In this paper, a laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) or powder-bed additive layer manufacturing process is now recognized as a high-potential manufacturing process for complex metallic parts, however, many technical issues are still to overcome for making LPBF a fully viable manufacturing process.

Penetration and Defect Formation in High-Current Arc Welding At high currents, the weld pool turns into a thin liquid film, causing humping, undercutting, and fingerlike penetration

F. Mendez, +1 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a simple model to predict the onset and type of humping defect, and demonstrated that premature solidification of this thin layer initiates split bead, parallel humping, tunnel porosity, and unercutting.

Penetration and defect formation in high-current arc welding

TL;DR: The work performed during the three previous years can be roughly divided into two main categories: (1) development of advanced modeling techniques; and (2) modeling of arc welding process.

Effects of torch configuration and welding current on weld bead formation in high speed tandem pulsed gas metal arc welding of steel sheets

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of the inclination angle, interwire distance and welding current ratio between the leading wire and the trailing wire on bead formation in high speed welding are investigated, and the undercut and humping bead are attributed to the irregular flow of molten metal towards the rear part of the weld pool.
