Abstract
Results are presented from a study of the preparation and characterization of Wyodak subbituminous coal impregnated with iron and iron-molybdenum salts by the incipient wetness (IW) technique. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was used to examine the surface composition and chemistry of coals impregnated with 0.7-2.0 wt% Fe and 500-1000 ppmw Mo. Various salts were used in preparing the impregnated coals including ferric nitrate, ferric sulfate, ferrous sulfate, and ammonium molybdate. The surface concentration of Fe increased as the amount of added Fe increased, with higher concentrations being observed for the nitrateimpregnated coals. The anions of the impregnating salts were readily removed from the samples that were treated with ammonium hydroxide solution

Economic and technical impacts of replacing Co and Ni promotion in hydrotreating catalysts

TL;DR: In this paper, a series of ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD) and VGO FCC-pretreat tests using alumina supported single transition metals as well as combinations of first row transition metals with Mo or W were conducted.

Sulfiding behavior of iron based coal liquefaction catalyst

TL;DR: In this article, the transformation mechanisms of iron-sulfur catalyst systems to pyrrhotite were investigated. But, the results indicated that active species (Fe 1-x S) would be transformed through FeS 2 as an intermediate, but iron carbonyl complexes were directly transformed into pyrhotite without the formation of FeS2.
