TLDR
In this article, receiver operating characteristic graphs are shown to be a variant form of ordinal dominance graphs, and several different methods of constructing confidence intervals for the area measure are presented and the strengths and weaknesses of each of these methods are discussed.

A Proposed Design and Analysis for Comparing Digital and Analog Mammography

TL;DR: A study to compare the two types of mammography in terms of their performance for the early detection of breast cancer among asymptomatic women by estimating the ratio of areas under the ROC curves near the small false-positive rates associated with a biopsy recommendation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Predicting response to adjuvant and radiation therapy in patients with early stage breast carcinoma

TL;DR: Screening and surveillance is increasing the detection of early stage breast carcinoma, and the ability to predict accurately the response to adjuvant therapy (chemotherapy or tamoxifen therapy) or postlumpectomy radiation therapy in patients can be vital to their survival.
Journal ArticleDOI

Learning Phonemes With a Proto-Lexicon

TL;DR: It is shown that a third type of information source, the occurrence of pairs of minimally differing word forms in speech heard by the infant, is also useful for learning phonemic categories and is in fact more reliable than purely distributional information in data containing a large number of allophones.
Journal ArticleDOI

New developments in observer performance methodology in medical imaging.

TL;DR: The purpose of this work is to review recent developments in this field, particularly with respect to the free-response method, where location information is also collected.
Journal ArticleDOI

Development of a Financial Health Indicator Based on Companies’ Annual Accounts

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the development of a financial health indicator based on companies' financial statements, which is conceived as a weighted combination of variables, obtained through a model discriminating between failing firms and non-failing firms.

Signal detection theory and psychophysics

TL;DR: This book discusses statistical decision theory and sensory processes in signal detection theory and psychophysics and describes how these processes affect decision-making.
Journal ArticleDOI

On a Test of Whether one of Two Random Variables is Stochastically Larger than the Other

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the limit distribution is normal if n, n$ go to infinity in any arbitrary manner, where n = m = 8 and n = n = 8.
Journal ArticleDOI

Consistency and Unbiasedness of Certain Nonparametric Tests

TL;DR: In this paper, it was shown that there exist strictly unbiased and consistent tests for the univariate and multivariate two-and fc-sample problem, for the hypothesis of independence, and for the hypotheses of symmetry with respect to a given point.

On a Use of the Mann-Whitney Statistic

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present a survey of the known properties of the U statistic which are of importance for its use in testing hypotheses and discuss another use of this statistic which has attracted less attention.
