The reduced eye was further modified by changing the refracting surface to an aspherical shape to reduce the amount of spherical aberration, providing an improved account of both the longitudinal and transverse forms of ocular chromatic aberration.Abstract:
New measurements of the chromatic difference of focus of the human eye were obtained with a two-color, vernier-alignment technique. The results were used to redefine the variation of refractive index of the reduced eye over the visible spectrum. The reduced eye was further modified by changing the refracting surface to an aspherical shape to reduce the amount of spherical aberration. The resulting chromatic-eye model provides an improved account of both the longitudinal and transverse forms of ocular chromatic aberration.read more

Longitudinal chromatic aberration of the human infant eye
TL;DR: The elevated level of LCA in infant eyes is consistent with the greater optical power of the immature eye and indicates similar chromatic dispersion in infant and adult eyes.

Predicting the partition of behavioral variability in speed perception with naturalistic stimuli
Benjamin M. Chin,Johannes Burge +1 more
TL;DR: A model of humans based on an image-computable Bayesian ideal observer and the results suggest that the deterministic computations humans perform are near optimal, and that behavioral responses to natural stimuli can be studied with the rigor and interpretability defining work with simpler stimuli.

Image Formation in the Living Human Eye
TL;DR: The human eye is a relatively simple optical instrument that imposes the first performance limits on the visual system: geometric image formation, aberrations, and intraocular scattering.

Chromatic and wavefront aberrations: L-, M- and S-cone stimulation with typical and extreme retinal image quality.
TL;DR: The model presented here provides a technique for estimating retinal image quality for the S, M and L cones for any stimulus presented to the eye and is applied to some informative examples.

Retinal image quality in near-eye pupil-steered systems.
TL;DR: A generalized taxonomy of pupil-steered architectures is introduced that considers both system and ocular factors that affect steering performance and an optical model of a generalized pupil- Steered system with a wide-field schematic eye to simulate the retinal image is developed.

The Frequency Response of a Defocused Optical System
TL;DR: In this paper, the response of a defocused aberration-free optical system to line-frequencies in the object is studied analytically, and curves are given showing the response as a function of line-frequency for a range of values of defect of focus.

Saccadic eye movements towards stimuli triggered by prior saccades.

TL;DR: The only finding reminiscent of perceptual “saccadic suppression” and mislocation effects is that a target which steps to a position ahead of a saccade is sometimes ignored.

Theory and measurement of ocular chromatic aberration.
TL;DR: One implication of these results is that, although the eye has substantial chromatic aberration, the pupil is positioned so as to minimize the transverse component of the aberration for central vision, thereby optimizing foveal image quality for polychromatic objects.

The change in refractive power of the human eye in dim and bright light.
George Wald,Donald R. Griffin +1 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that setting optical instruments about 0.4 diopter more negatively in dim than in bright light is justified on the basis of the chromatic aberration of the eye.
