TLDR
The essential advantage of the new model lies in its simpler and faster applicability, and the difference in dry matter content of the wasted sludge and that remaining in the activated sludge stage are now taken into account as well, facilitating a more exact calculation of the elimination.

Environmental fate and toxicity in wastewater treatment of quaternary ammonium surfactants

TL;DR: In this article, the biodegradabilite des surfactants et leur toxicite envers les microorganismes is discussed. But le toxicite is not considered.
Journal ArticleDOI

A correlation study of biodegradability determinations with various chemicals in various tests. II. Additional results and conclusions.

TL;DR: The concept of the OECD Expert Group “Degradation/Accumulation” of a set of tests for the determination of “ready biodegradability” could be confirmed on an experimental basis.

Properties of hydroxyethane diphosphonate affecting its environmental fate: Degradability, sludge adsorption, mobility in soils, and bioconcentration

TL;DR: In this article, the results of a dynamic bioaccumulation test with fish show that HEDP has a very low bioconcentration potential and that it is moderately to little mobile in soils.
Journal ArticleDOI

Adaptation of Aquatic Microbial Communities to Quaternary Ammonium Compounds

TL;DR: Exposure of lake microbial communities to QACs results in the development of adapted communities which are less sensitive to potential toxic effects and more active in the biodegradation of these materials.
Book ChapterDOI

Quaternary Ammonium Surfactants

TL;DR: In this paper, surface-active quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs), an important class of industrial chemicals with a broad spectrum of commercial and consumer uses, are discussed.

Biodegradability determinations via unspecific analyses (chemical oxygen demand, dissolved organic carbon) in coupled units of the oecd confirmatory test—I. The test

TL;DR: In this article, the coupled units test was applied to the biodegradability evaluation of compounds important to the detergent industry: some typical anionic and nonionic surfactants and mono- and polymeric organic phosphate substitutes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biodegradability determinations in trickling filter units compared with the OECD Confirmatory Test

TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the reproducibility of its results, the sensitivity of the method, and the merits and shortcomings of the non-specific analyses (COD and DOC) employed.
