TLDR
The results on the percentage incorporation at different times demonstrated that the monoterpene-β-d -glucosides were in a state of rapid metabolic flux as mentioned in this paper.

Metabolic costs of terpenoid accumulation in higher plants.

TL;DR: The metabolic costs of terpenoids accumulation in plants in the light of recent advances in terpenoid biochemistry are explored in relation to the assumptions and predictions of several current theories of plant defense, including the carbonnutrient balance hypothesis, the growth-differentiation balance hypotheses, and the resource availability hypothesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Regulation of monoterpene accumulation in leaves of peppermint.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the rate of biosynthesis is the chief process that determines monoterpene accumulation in peppermint, and efforts to improve production in this species can now focus on the genes, enzymes, and cell differentiation processes that regulate monoterPene biosynthesis.

Glycoconjugated aroma compounds: occurrence, role and biotechnological transformation.

TL;DR: The present paper reviews the occurrence of glycosidically bound aroma compounds in the plant kingdom and discusses different hypotheses concerning their role in plants with emphasis on biotechnological methods for flavor release and flavor enhancement through enzymatic hydrolysis of glycoconjugated aroma substances.
Journal ArticleDOI

New Perspectives in Pollination Biology: Floral Fragrances. A day in the life of a linalool molecule: Chemical communication in a plant‐pollinator system. Part 1: Linalool biosynthesis in flowering plants

TL;DR: Floral emission of linalool has evolved de novo in the fragrant, moth-pollinated annual Clarkia breweri (Gray) Greene (Onagraceae) through a combination of up-regulation and ectopic expression of its biosynthetic enzyme, linalools synthase (LIS), in conjunction with allometric size increases in all soral organs.

Formation of Monoterpenes in Antirrhinum majus and Clarkia breweri Flowers Involves Heterodimeric Geranyl Diphosphate Synthases

TL;DR: It is discovered that Antirrhinum majus and Clarkia breweri, two species whose floral scent is rich in monoterpenes, both possess a heterodimeric GPPS like that previously reported from Mentha piperita (peppermint), and GPPS.LSU might play a key role in regulating the formation of GPPS and, thus, monoterpene biosynthesis.

Biosynthesis of terpenes. II. The site and sequence of terpene formation in peppermint.

TL;DR: Analysis of the distribution of terpenes through the leaf pairs of a single shoot shows a regular succession from unsaturated ketones and menthofuran in the young leaves to menthol and menthyl acetate in the old leaves.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biosynthesis of kaurene, squalene and phytoene from mevalonate-2-14C in a cell-free system from pea fruits

TL;DR: Only kaurene synthesis was inhibited by the plant growth inhibitor AMO 1618, and a mixed plastid and mitochondrial fraction greatly increased the formation of squalene, farnesol and geranylgeraniol but not theformation of phytoene and Kaurene.
Journal ArticleDOI

Biosynthesis of phytoene from isopentenyl and farnesyl pyrophosphates by a partially purified tomato enzyme system.

TL;DR: The solubilization, stabilization, and partial purification of an enzyme system that synthesizes phytoene from isopentenyl pyrophosphate is reported, and the enzyme system also effects the condensation of isopENTenyl and farnesyl pyphosphate.

Monoterpene interconversions: Metabolism of pulegone by a cell-free system from Mentha piperita

TL;DR: Cell-free extracts prepared from young vegetative shoot tips of Mentha piperita L. (peppermint) utilize 14 C-labelled pulegone, and extracts prepared by a similar procedure from M. arvensis and M. sylvestris have been shown to reduce puleg one to menthone and isomenthone in the presence of NADPH 2.

Terpene Formation in Pine from Mevalonic Acid

TL;DR: This paper found that pine seedlings of Pinus attenuata were found to incorporate acetate-2-14C and mevalonic acid-2 -14C into the monoterpenes.
