TLDR
In this histopathologic study of retinoblastomas exhibiting an unusual form of dif ferentiation, it seemed apparent that these tumors were producing structures resem bling elements of the photoreceptor cell.

Photoreceptor differentiation of retinoblastoma: an electron microscopic study of 29 retinoblastomas.

TL;DR: An ultrastructural study was performed on 29 cases of retinoblastomas to further clarify the cytologic characteristics of the tumor cells, and photoreceptor differentiated ret inoblastoma showed rather indolent growth compared with the undifferentiated type, and the former can expect a curative treatment by operation.

An immunocytochemical demonstration of calcineurin in human nerve cell tumors. A comparison with neuron‐specific enolase and glial fibrillary acidic protein

TL;DR: Human central and peripheral nerve cell tumors were examined in detail using antibodies to calcineurin, glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and neuron‐specific enolase (NSE), and GFAP‐positive cells in some tumors revealed not only neoplastic but also reactive astrocytic features.
Journal ArticleDOI

Glial-, neuronal- and photoreceptor-specific cell markers in rosettes of retinoblastoma and retinal dysplasia

TL;DR: Tumor cells in the rosettes of retinoblastoma may have the ability to differentiate into neural and glial cells, suggesting the theory that retinOBlastoma cells may have originated from a primitive neuroectodermal cell capable of multipotentiality.
Journal ArticleDOI

Histopathological and Tissue Culture Studies of a Melanizing Cell Line Derived from a Retinoblastoma

TL;DR: Histological examination of the enucleated eye of a 7‐mth‐old child revealed a retinoblastoma with areas of rosette formation as well as focal areas of melanin pigmentation, suggesting that retinOBlastomas may be derived from bipotential primitive retinal cells which retain the capacity for both nuclear cell and pigment cell differentiation.
Journal ArticleDOI

A study of 39 retinoblastomas with particular reference to morphology, cellular differentiation and tumour origin.

TL;DR: The data suggest that retinoblastoma is a primitive stem cell neuroectodermal tumour with the capacity for differentiation in both neuronal and neuroglial directions.

Cilia and Flagella

Don Fawcett
TL;DR: Cilia are motile, hairlike appendages on the free surface of cells that play an important role in such diverse physiological processes as locomotion, alimentation, circulation, respiration, reproduction, and sensory reception.

Beiträge zur Histogenese und Histologie der Netzhaut, des Pigmentepithels und des Sehnerven

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present an overview of the evolution of the Retinazelle and its relationship with the rest of the body of work in the field of physicologischen excavations.
