The fungal dimension of biodiversity: magnitude, significance, and conservation

David L. Hawksworth
- 01 Jun 1991 -
TL;DR: The number of known species in the world is conservatively estimated at 1·5 million; six-times higher than hitherto suggested; this realization has major implications for systematic manpower, resources, and classification.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phylogenetic relationships in Cortinarius, section Calochroi, inferred from nuclear DNA sequences.

TL;DR: DNA sequences obtained from a nearly complete taxon sampling of known species from Europe, Central America and North America demonstrate that Calochroi is an exclusively northern hemispheric lineage, where species follow their host trees throughout their natural ranges within and across continents.

Evolution of gilled mushrooms and puffballs inferred from ribosomal DNA sequences

TL;DR: A comprehensive phylogenetic analysis of homobasidiomycetes, using sequences from nuclear and mitochondrial ribosomal DNA, with an emphasis on understanding evolutionary relationships of gilled mushrooms and puffballs, suggested that strikingly similar gilled mushroom evolved at least six times, from morphologically diverse precursors.

Phylogenetic relationships among ascomycetous truffles and the true and false morels inferred from 18S and 28S ribosomal DNA sequence analysis

TL;DR: Phylogenetic relationships among asco- mycetous truffles and the true and false morels were examined by using sequences from two nuclear en- coded ribosomal DNA genes, showing strong support for a Tuberaceae-Helvellaceae clade which is a monophyletic sister group of a Morchellaceae-Dis- cinaceaeClade.

Notes on Astrogastraceous Fungi

Alexander H. Smith
- 01 Nov 1962 -
TL;DR: In view of the work of Singer & Smith (1960) it is now necessary to restudy the types of the hypogeous Basidiomycetes to sort out additional species belonging in this group, possibly exclude a number which have been described in such genera as Hydnangium but do not belong in this series, and make the necessary readjustments in the nomenclature.

Pilzpigmente, 29. 2.5-Diary ley clopentan-1.3-dione aus Chamonixia caespitosa (Basidiomycetes)/Pigments of Fungi, 29.2,5-Diarylcyclopentane-1,3-diones from Chamonixia caespitosa (Basidiomycetes)

TL;DR: From sporophores of Chamonixia caespitosa the 2,5-diarylcyclopentane-1,3-diones gyrocyanin, chamonixin and gyroporin have been isolated, suggesting a close relation to the order Boletales.

Elasmomyces, Arcangeliella, and Macowanites

TL;DR: Elasmomyces and Arcangeltella were erected by Cavara to receive those forms related to Hydnangium but having a columella and Macowanites is similar to the above two genera in some respects, but for the most part the species are larger and are more pileate than in Elasmomyce.
