TLDR
In this paper, an extensive analysis of low energy electron diffraction (LEED) intensities, using dynamical (multiple scattering) calculations, was performed on the surface reconstruction of the Ir(100, Pt(100), and Au(100) crystal surfaces, and it was found that a hexagonal rearrangement of the top monolayer is a likely explanation of surface reconstruction.

The role of surface stress in reconstruction, epitaxial growth and stabilization of mesoscopic structures

TL;DR: The role of surface stress at solid surfaces in a vacuum environment and in contact with a liquid electrolyte in reconstruction, epitaxial growth and self-organization or stabilization of mesoscopic structures is critically reviewed in this paper.

Reconstruction phenomena at metal-electrolyte interfaces

TL;DR: For gold and platinum single-crystal electrodes in aqueous solutions surface reconstruction phenomena are observed which are very much the same as those known from respective investigations in ultra high vacuum.

Surface reconstruction in electrochemistry: Au(100-(5 × 20), Au(111)-(1 × 23) and Au(110)-(1 × 2)

TL;DR: In this article, the potentials of zero charge of the reconstructed surfaces have been determined and compared with those of the unreconstructed ones, in order to obtain information on the transition kinetics.

On surface stress and surface tension: II. Determination of the surface stress of gold

TL;DR: In this article, a lattice contraction of small (2 r = 35 A to 125 A) gold nuclei is observed as a function of their radii, interpreted in terms of surface stress, and a value of 1175 dyn/cm is obtained for the surface stress of gold, at a temperature of approximately 50°C.

Phase transition on Mo(100) and W(100) surfaces

TL;DR: In this paper, low-energy-electron-diffraction studies of carefully cleaned and annealed surfaces of molybdenum and tungsten (100) showed that a phase transition can be induced by lowering the temperature below 300 K. The phase transition is reversible and seemingly second order.

Electronic Structure of the fcc Transition Metals Ir, Rh, Pt, and Pd

TL;DR: In this paper, a relativistic augmented plane-wave calculation of the band structures of the paramagnetic fcc transition metals Ir, Rh, Pt, and Pd was presented, and the agreement with de Haas-van Alphen Fermi-surface dimensions was very good.
