Vacuum pyrolysis of commingled plastics containing PVC I. Kinetic study

TL;DR: In this article, the role of each polymer in the stabilization or destabilization of other interacting plastics, as well as the fate of chlorine produced from PVC was investigated under vacuum conditions by dynamic thermogravimetric analysis in the temperature range of 25-600°C.

Thermal degradation of polystyrene—I. Chain scission at low temperatures

TL;DR: In this article, the thermal degradation of thermally and anionically prepared polystyrenes was studied at temperatures where volatile formation is negligible, and it was shown that these weak links are distributed predominantly at random within the polymer chains, although the possibility that a small proportion are sited at chain ends cannot be entirely excluded.

Pyrolysis-gas-liquid-chromatography utilised for a kinetic study of the mechanisms of initiation and termination in the thermal degradation of polystyrene

TL;DR: In this paper, the pyrolysis mechanism involves both initiation at the chain-ends and initiation by random scission, and the activation energies for scission and end-initiation for both types of sample were analyzed.

Kinetic study of the thermal decomposition of polystyrene and polyethylene-vinyl acetate graft copolymers by thermogravimetric analysis

TL;DR: In this article, different kinetic models have been applied to correlate simultaneously the experimental weight loss data obtained at different heating rates for PS and EVA, and the results showed that the single first-order reaction model provides a very poor correlation, whereas a model involving the formation of an intermediate yields very satisfactory results.

Modeling pyrolysis kinetics of plastic mixtures

TL;DR: In this paper, binary and ternary mixture degradation kinetics of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), low density polyethylenes (LDPE), and polypropylene (PP) were modeled.

Degradation of Polymers

TL;DR: In this paper, a review of recent literature pertaining to both the theoretical aspects and experimental results of the degradation of polymers by heat and radiation is reviewed and critically evaluated, and the thermodynamics and energetics of these polymers are also reviewed.
