Toxic effect of zinc on NF-κB, IL-2, IL-2 receptor α, and TNF-α in HUT-78 (Th0) cells

TLDR
The data indicate that not only low level of zinc, but also high levels of zinc decrease Th1 function, as higher concentration of zinc adversely affects T-cell immune response.

TL;DR: This review outlines the connection between zinc and immunity by giving a survey on the major roles of zinc in immune cell function, and their potential consequences in vivo.

Zinc and regulation of inflammatory cytokines: implications for cardiometabolic disease.

TL;DR: The interplay of zinc and inflammation warrants further examination, given the high prevalence of zinc deficiency and chronic disease globally, and the mechanism of action may reflect the ability of zinc to either induce or inhibit the activation of NF-κB.

Roles of Zinc Signaling in the Immune System

TL;DR: This review highlights the emerging functional roles of Zn and Zn transporters in immunity, focusing on how crosstalk between ZN and immune-related signaling guides the normal development and function of immune cells.

The role of nutrition in enhancing immunity in aging.

TL;DR: The studies published thus far describe a critical role for nutrition in maintaining the immune response of the aged, but they also indicate the need for a more in-depth, wholestic approach to determining the optimal nutritional strategies that would maintain a healthy immune system in the elderly and promote their resistance to infection and other immune-related diseases.

Zinc in innate and adaptive tumor immunity

TL;DR: Based on this novel synthesis, approaches which locally regulate zinc levels to promote survival of immune cells and/or induce tumor apoptosis are in order.

Tnf/tnfr family members in costimulation of t cell responses

TL;DR: This review focuses on CD27, 4-1BB, OX40, HVEM, CD30, and GITR, all of which can have costimulatory effects on T cells, and shows promise for several therapeutic applications, including cancer, infectious disease, transplantation, and autoimmunity.

Interleukin-2 receptor beta chain gene: generation of three receptor forms by cloned human alpha and beta chain cDNA's.

TL;DR: The cDNA-encoded beta chain binds and internalizes IL-2 when expressed on T lymphoid cells but not fibroblast cells and gives rise to the generation of high-affinityIL-2 receptor when co-expressed with the IL-1R alpha chain cDNA.

- 21 Sep 1984 -
TL;DR: The effect of administration of large amounts of zinc on immune response and serum lipoproteins was examined and zinc supplementation with resultant excessive intake could have deleterious effects in healthy persons.

Hypocupremia induced by zinc therapy in adults.

TL;DR: Hypocupremia occurred in an adult with sickle cell anemia who received zinc as an antisickling agent for two years and was associated with microcytosis and relative neutropenia, which was easily corrected by copper supplementation.
