Abstract
A 2L-dimensional multiple phase-shift keyed (L*MPSK) signal set is obtained by forming the Cartesian product of L two-dimensional MPSK signal sets. A systematic approach to partitioning L*MPSK signal sets that is based on block coding is used. An encoder system approach is developed. It incorporates the design of a differential precoder, a systematic convolutional encoder, and a signal set mapper. Trellis-coded L*4PSK, L*8PSK, and L*16PSK modulation schemes are found for 1 >

Effects of improving phase transparency on the distance spectrum of trellis codes

TL;DR: The distance spectra and performance bounds for 4 and 8-state 32 AMPM trellis codes due to Ungerboeck (1982) and Wei (1984) are computed and it is seen that not all mappings by set partitioning yield equivalentdistance spectra although they have the same minimum distance.

Rotationally-Invariant Multi-Dimensional Trellis Coded Modulation for Optical Transmission Systems

TL;DR: Numerical simulations show that multi-D TCM combined with simple hard-dec decision forward error correction (HD-FEC) codes are of practical interest, as they can provide a better trade-off between complexity and performance, compared to soft-decision (SD-)FEC alternatives.

Source-channel optimized trellis codes for bi-tonal image transmission over AWGN channels

J.M. Kroll, +1 more
TL;DR: This work first model the image as a binary asymmetric Markov source and then design source-channel optimized (SCO) trellis codes for the BAMS and AWGN channel, showing the SCO codes to be superior to Ungerboeck's (1982) codes by approximately 1.1 dB.

Impact of imperfect pilot-symbol-aided channel estimation on TCM performance over Rayleigh fading channels

TL;DR: A simple method of approximating BER performance of a mobile communication system using trellis-coded modulation and realistic and thus imperfect channel estimation and a modified approach to exact pairwise error probability (PEP) calculation is presented.
