Trypanosoma evansi: cholinesterase activity in acutely infected Wistar rats.

TLDR
Reductions in the activity of cholinesterase occur in acute infection by T. evansi in rats and this demonstrates an important change occurring in animals infected by the protozoan and may indicate a potential role the enzymes play in the mechanism of disease.

Evaluation of oxidative stress and antioxidant status, serum trace mineral levels and cholinesterases activity in cattle infected with Anaplasma marginale.

TL;DR: The significant decrease in antioxidant enzyme activities and substantial elevated levels of lipid peroxidation and erythrocyte osmotic fragility associated with the notable increase in parasitemia indicate increased exposure of RBCs to oxidative damage.
Journal ArticleDOI

Serum Total Cholinesterase Activity on Admission Is Associated with Disease Severity and Outcome in Patients with Traumatic Brain Injury.

TL;DR: Lowered ChE activity measured on admission appears to be associated with disease severity and outcome for TBI patients and was identified as a borderline independent predictor for mortality.

A rapid and sensitive method for the quantitation of microgram quantities of protein utilizing the principle of protein-dye binding

TL;DR: This assay is very reproducible and rapid with the dye binding process virtually complete in approximately 2 min with good color stability for 1 hr with little or no interference from cations such as sodium or potassium nor from carbohydrates such as sucrose.
Journal ArticleDOI

A new and rapid colorimetric determination of acetylcholinesterase activity.

TL;DR: A photometric method for determining acetylcholinesterase activity of tissue extracts, homogenates, cell suspensions, etc., has been described and Kinetic constants determined by this system for erythrocyte eholinesterases are presented.

Acetylcholinesterase New roles for an old actor

TL;DR: The time is ripe to summarize the evidence on a remarkable diversity of acetylcholinesterase functions, as well as some of the long-suspected 'non-classical' actions of this enzyme, which have more recently driven a profound revolution in research.
Journal ArticleDOI

Neurobiology of butyrylcholinesterase.

TL;DR: Evidence that butyrylcholinesterase has important roles in cholinergic neurotransmission and could be involved in other nervous system functions and in neurodegenerative diseases is reviewed.
