Characteristics of grain refinement in oxygen-free copper processed by equal-channel angular pressing and dynamic testing

TL;DR: In this article, equal-channel angular pressing (ECAP) was used to extract the initial microstructures induced by ECAP on the subsequent grain refinement and mechanical properties after dynamic testing, and the results show the strength of copper increased with increasing numbers of ECAP passes and a significant additional grain refinement was produced in the ECAP specimens through the dynamic testing.
Journal ArticleDOI

Ultrafine-grained porous titanium and porous titanium/magnesium composites fabricated by space holder-enabled severe plastic deformation

TL;DR: A detailed electron microscopy investigation was employed to analyse the interface between Ti/Ti and Ti/Mg particles, the grain structures in Ti particles and the topography of pore surfaces, and found that using the proposed compaction method, high quality bonding between particles was obtained.
Journal ArticleDOI

Surface and internal structural markers for studying grain boundary sliding and grain rotation

TL;DR: In this article, the microstructural evolution of the samples of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu (AA7574) and Al-mg-Mn (AA5083) alloys with both surface FIB-grids and internal Al3Ni-particles markers at superplastic deformation was investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Morphological and crystallographic anisotropy of severely deformed commercially pure aluminium by three-dimensional electron backscatter diffraction

TL;DR: In this article, the morphological and crystallographic anisotropy of severely deformed commercially pure aluminium is studied by conventional and three-dimensional electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) scans.
Journal ArticleDOI

Gradual formation of nano/ultrafine structure under accumulative press bonding (APB) process

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the microstructural evolution and mechanical properties of AA1050 pure aluminum alloy up to 14 cycles and found that continuous dynamic recovery was a dominant mechanism in grain refinement, and resulted in formation of nano/ultrafine grains with average diameter of 450 nm in pressing direction and 320 nm in transverse direction.

The Deformation and Ageing of Mild Steel: III Discussion of Results

E O Hall
TL;DR: In this paper, an attempt is made to explain the observed phenomena in the yielding and ageing of mild steel, described in two previous papers, in the general terms of a grain-boundary theory.
Journal ArticleDOI

Bulk nanostructured materials from severe plastic deformation

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present methods of severe plastic deformation and formation of nanostructures, including Torsion straining under high pressure, ECA pressing, and multiple forging.
Journal ArticleDOI

Principles of equal-channel angular pressing as a processing tool for grain refinement

TL;DR: In this article, a review examines recent developments related to the use of ECAP for grain refinement including modifying conventional ECAP to increase the process efficiency and techniques for up-scaling the procedure and for the processing of hard-to-deform materials.
Journal ArticleDOI

Using high-pressure torsion for metal processing: Fundamentals and applications

TL;DR: High pressure torsion (HPT) is a well-known technique for metal forming as discussed by the authors, where samples are subjected to a compressive force and concurrent torsional straining.
Journal ArticleDOI

Diffusional Viscosity of a Polycrystalline Solid

TL;DR: In this article, it is suggested that mosaic boundaries and boundaries between grains of nearly the same orientation may not serve as sources or sinks of the diffusion currents, in which case the creep rate will depend only on the configuration of grain boundaries having a sizable orientation differen...
