Achieving good tensile properties in ultrafine grained nickel by spark plasma sintering
TL;DR: In this article, the tensile properties of ultrafine grain Ni samples processed by spark plasma sintering are investigated, where a high purity Ni powder was nanostructured by ball milling using different processing conditions, and consolidation of the powder was performed by Spark Plasminar Sintering, and each sample was characterised in terms of grain size and grain boundary distribution to study the influence of milling parameters on the microstructure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Fabrication of fine grain structures in Al matrices at elevated temperature by the stimulation of dual-size particles
TL;DR: In this paper, particles with both sub-micron and nano-scaled sizes are introduced in Al matrices (composites) to deeply refine and stabilize the grain structures at high temperature.
Journal ArticleDOI
Microstructure and corrosion behavior of the friction stir welded joints made from ultrafine grained aluminum
TL;DR: In this article, the corrosion behavior and microstructural changes between base materials and stir zones were investigated in a joint made from ultrafine grained aluminium alloy 1050, and the observed minor differences in corrosion resistance include slightly higher values of corrosion potentials but more complex pits' morphology for I-ECAP processed samples comparing to the stir zones.
Journal ArticleDOI
Examining the Thermal Stability of an Al-Mg-Sc Alloy Processed by High-Pressure Torsion
TL;DR: In this article, an Al-3%Mg-0.2%Sc alloy was solution treated and subjected to 10 turns of high pressure torsion (HPT), and its mechanical properties and microstructural evolution were examined using microhardness measurements and EBSD analysis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of ECAP Deformation Route on the Degree of Anisotropy of Microstructure of Extremely Low CN Fe-20mass%Cr Alloy
TL;DR: In this article, the effect of the deformation route on the microstructural evolution of low CN Fe-20%Cr alloy by ECAP has been investigated, with a focus on the anisotropy of the microstructure.

The Deformation and Ageing of Mild Steel: III Discussion of Results
TL;DR: In this paper, an attempt is made to explain the observed phenomena in the yielding and ageing of mild steel, described in two previous papers, in the general terms of a grain-boundary theory.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bulk nanostructured materials from severe plastic deformation
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present methods of severe plastic deformation and formation of nanostructures, including Torsion straining under high pressure, ECA pressing, and multiple forging.
Journal ArticleDOI
Principles of equal-channel angular pressing as a processing tool for grain refinement
TL;DR: In this article, a review examines recent developments related to the use of ECAP for grain refinement including modifying conventional ECAP to increase the process efficiency and techniques for up-scaling the procedure and for the processing of hard-to-deform materials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Using high-pressure torsion for metal processing: Fundamentals and applications
TL;DR: High pressure torsion (HPT) is a well-known technique for metal forming as discussed by the authors, where samples are subjected to a compressive force and concurrent torsional straining.

Diffusional Viscosity of a Polycrystalline Solid
TL;DR: In this article, it is suggested that mosaic boundaries and boundaries between grains of nearly the same orientation may not serve as sources or sinks of the diffusion currents, in which case the creep rate will depend only on the configuration of grain boundaries having a sizable orientation differen...
