Rural Windfall or a New Resource Curse? Coca, Income, and Civil Conflict in Colombia
TL;DR: This article studied the economic and social consequences of a major exogenous shift in the production of one such resource - coca paste - into Colombia, where most coca leaf is now harvested and found that this shift generated only modest economic gains in rural areas, primarily in the form of increased self-employment earnings and increased labor supply by teenage boys.

African migration: trends, patterns, drivers
TL;DR: This article explored the evolution and drivers of migration within, towards and from Africa in the post-colonial period and found that intra-African migration intensities have gone down, and that increasing migration out of Africa seems rather to be driven by processes of development and social transformation which have increased Africans' capabilities and aspirations to migrate, a trend which is likely to continue in the future.
