Abstract
Verification and validation of artificially intelligent systems has been the focus of substantial recent research. However, little attention has been given in the literature to verification and validation for cased-based systems. The unique structure of cased-based systems is used to raised new validation issues, develop new approaches to generating comparative solutions for validation purposes, and investigate new approaches for examining the quality of the case base. In addition, this article presents new statistical and structural approaches designed to exploit unique aspects of case-based reasoning for verification purposes.

Modelling the Competence of Case-Bases

TL;DR: It is argued that this model has an important role to play in areas such as the evaluation and benchmarking of case-based techniques, and a novel application of the model is demonstrated as a guide to case-base designers during the case authoring process.

A case-based reasoning approach to bankruptcy prediction modeling

TL;DR: The results indicate that the CBR method using ReMind is not useful in predicting corporate bankruptcy, and it is believed that the small sample of bankrupt firms contributes to the failure of these CBR models to accurately predict bankruptcy.

Fuzzy indexing and retrieval in case-based systems

TL;DR: In this article, a new approach that integrates fuzzy set concepts into the case indexing and retrieval process is presented, which allows numerical features to be converted into fuzzy terms to simplify the matching process.

Case-Base Maintenance

TL;DR: This paper surveys recent progress in the area of knowledge maintenance, and proposes a novel, competence-based maintenance policy for case-based reasoning systems.

Case-based reasoning as a technique for knowledge management in business process redesign

TL;DR: The use of a case-based reasoning technique (CBR) to support solving new problems by adapting previously successful solutions to similar problems to support redesigning new business processes by adapting previous successful redesign to similar business process is suggested.

Induction of Decision Trees

J. R. Quinlan
- 25 Mar 1986 -
TL;DR: In this paper, an approach to synthesizing decision trees that has been used in a variety of systems, and it describes one such system, ID3, in detail, is described, and a reported shortcoming of the basic algorithm is discussed.

On genetic algorithms

TL;DR: C Culling is near optimal for this problem, highly noise tolerant, and the best known a~~roach in some regimes, and some new large deviation bounds on this submartingale enable us to determine the running time of the algorithm.

Integer programming

TL;DR: The principles of integer programming are directed toward finding solutions to problems from the fields of economic planning, engineering design, and combinatorial optimization as mentioned in this paper, which is a standard of graduate-level courses since 1972.

Knowledge acquisition via incremental conceptual clustering

TL;DR: COBWEB is a conceptual clustering system that organizes data so as to maximize inference ability, and is incremental and computationally economical, and thus can be flexibly applied in a variety of domains.

Knowledge Discovery in Databases

TL;DR: Knowledge Discovery in Databases brings together current research on the exciting problem of discovering useful and interesting knowledge in databases, which spans many different approaches to discovery, including inductive learning, bayesian statistics, semantic query optimization, knowledge acquisition for expert systems, information theory, and fuzzy 1 sets.
