TLDR
Among environmental factors contributing to disease in Europe, environmental noise leads to a disease burden that is only second in magnitude to that from air pollution, a new World Health Organization report finds.
Abstract
Traffic related noise accounts for over one million healthy years of life lost annually to ill health, disability, or early death in western Europe, according to a new World Health Organization report. The study finds that among environmental factors contributing to disease in Europe, environmental noise leads to a disease burden that is only second in magnitude to that from air pollution. Noise pollution causes or contributes to not only annoyance and sleep disturbance but also heart attacks, learning disabilities, and tinnitus. The report concludes that there is sufficient evidence from large scale epidemiological studies …

Sound absorption of extracted pineapple-leaf fibres

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported that the use of fibres from the pineapple leaf (PALF) to be an alternative natural acoustic material can achieve sound absorption coefficient of 0.9 on average above 1 kHz.

General regression neural network for prediction of sound absorption coefficients of sandwich structure nonwoven absorbers

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a more general forecasting method to predict the sound absorption coefficients at six central frequencies and the average sound absorption coefficient of a sandwich structure nonwoven absorber.

A Review Of Natural Fiber Composites [Jute, Sisal, Kenaf]

TL;DR: A review on mechanical, micro-structural properties of Jute, Sisal and Kenaf is presented in this paper, where a literature survey has been done on these materials to make utilization of these natural fibers namely jute, sisal, kenaf, abaca banana, cotton, coir, hemp, and so on.

Acoustic and thermal properties of a cellulose nonwoven natural fabric (barkcloth)

TL;DR: In this article, sound absorption properties of Antiaris toxicaria bark cloth and the thermal insulation properties of the barkcloth epoxy laminar composites were characterized using sound absorption models.

Recycling of waste tire fibers into advanced aerogels for thermal insulation and sound absorption applications

TL;DR: In this paper, a novel but simple and time-saving strategy to fabricate rubber aerogel from waste tire fibers, derived from car tire wastes, is reported using a freeze-drying process.
