TL;DR: An App (called Healthcare Data Gateway (HGD) architecture based on blockchain is proposed to enable patient to own, control and share their own data easily and securely without violating privacy, which provides a new potential way to improve the intelligence of healthcare systems while keeping patient data private.
Abstract: Healthcare data are a valuable source of healthcare intelligence. Sharing of healthcare data is one essential step to make healthcare system smarter and improve the quality of healthcare service. Healthcare data, one personal asset of patient, should be owned and controlled by patient, instead of being scattered in different healthcare systems, which prevents data sharing and puts patient privacy at risks. Blockchain is demonstrated in the financial field that trusted, auditable computing is possible using a decentralized network of peers accompanied by a public ledger. In this paper, we proposed an App (called Healthcare Data Gateway (HGD)) architecture based on blockchain to enable patient to own, control and share their own data easily and securely without violating privacy, which provides a new potential way to improve the intelligence of healthcare systems while keeping patient data private. Our proposed purpose-centric access model ensures patient own and control their healthcare data; simple unified Indicator-Centric Schema (ICS) makes it possible to organize all kinds of personal healthcare data practically and easily. We also point out that MPC (Secure Multi-Party Computing) is one promising solution to enable untrusted third-party to conduct computation over patient data without violating privacy.

TL;DR: After surveying existing solutions for enhancing IoT security, key future requirements for trusted Smart Home systems are identified and a gateway architecture is selected as the most appropriate for resource-constrained devices, and for high system availability.
Abstract: Often the Internet of Things (IoT) is considered as a single problem domain, with proposed solutions intended to be applied across a wide range of applications. However, the privacy and security needs of critical engineering infrastructure or sensitive commercial operations are very different to the needs of a domestic Smart Home environment. Additionally, the financial and human resources available to implement security and privacy vary greatly between application domains. In domestic environments, human issues may be as important as technical issues. After surveying existing solutions for enhancing IoT security, the paper identifies key future requirements for trusted Smart Home systems. A gateway architecture is selected as the most appropriate for resource-constrained devices, and for high system availability. Two key technologies to assist system auto-management are identified. Firstly, support for system auto-configuration will enhance system security. Secondly, the automatic update of system software and firmware is needed to maintain ongoing secure system operation.

TL;DR: The experiments show that mel-spectrogram is an effective time-frequency representation for automatic tagging and that more complex models benefit from more training data.
Abstract: We present a content-based automatic music tagging algorithm using fully convolutional neural networks (FCNs). We evaluate different architectures consisting of 2D convolutional layers and subsampling layers only. In the experiments, we measure the AUC-ROC scores of the architectures with different complexities and input types using the MagnaTagATune dataset, where a 4-layer architecture shows state-of-the-art performance with mel-spectrogram input. Furthermore, we evaluated the performances of the architectures with varying the number of layers on a larger dataset (Million Song Dataset), and found that deeper models outperformed the 4-layer architecture. The experiments show that mel-spectrogram is an effective time-frequency representation for automatic tagging and that more complex models benefit from more training data.

TL;DR: The authors proposed an end-to-end neural architecture based on match-LSTM and pointer net for machine comprehension in the Stanford Question Answering Dataset (SQuAD).
Abstract: Machine comprehension of text is an important problem in natural language processing. A recently released dataset, the Stanford Question Answering Dataset (SQuAD), offers a large number of real questions and their answers created by humans through crowdsourcing. SQuAD provides a challenging testbed for evaluating machine comprehension algorithms, partly because compared with previous datasets, in SQuAD the answers do not come from a small set of candidate answers and they have variable lengths. We propose an end-to-end neural architecture for the task. The architecture is based on match-LSTM, a model we proposed previously for textual entailment, and Pointer Net, a sequence-to-sequence model proposed by Vinyals et al.(2015) to constrain the output tokens to be from the input sequences. We propose two ways of using Pointer Net for our task. Our experiments show that both of our two models substantially outperform the best results obtained by Rajpurkar et al.(2016) using logistic regression and manually crafted features.

TL;DR: The Quality User Story (QUS) framework is proposed, a set of 13 quality criteria that user story writers should strive to conform to and a software tool, based on QUS, is presented, which relies on natural language processing techniques and suggests possible remedies.
Abstract: User stories are a widely adopted requirements notation in agile development. Yet, user stories are too often poorly written in practice and exhibit inherent quality defects. Triggered by this observation, we propose the Quality User Story (QUS) framework, a set of 13 quality criteria that user story writers should strive to conform to. Based on QUS, we present the Automatic Quality User Story Artisan (AQUSA) software tool. Relying on natural language processing (NLP) techniques, AQUSA detects quality defects and suggest possible remedies. We describe the architecture of AQUSA, its implementation, and we report on an evaluation that analyzes 1023 user stories obtained from 18 software companies. Our tool does not yet reach the ambitious 100 % recall that Daniel Berry and colleagues require NLP tools for RE to achieve. However, we obtain promising results and we identify some improvements that will substantially improve recall and precision.

TL;DR: This paper proposes a novel architecture of CCPS (termed CCPSA) and outlines the enabling technologies for CIA and dissects three potential challenges and provides solutions from the perspective of CIA, including virtualized resource management techniques, the scheduling of cloud resources, and life cycle management.
Abstract: Recently, with many advances in wireless sensor networks, big data, mobile and cloud computing, Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) can tightly couple cyber space with the physical world better than ever before. Also, the cloud-based systems can provide massive storage resources and low-cost computing as well as the flexibility of customizing the operating environment to Complex Industrial Applications (CIA). In our view, Cloud-integrated CPS (CCPS) will open the door to allow previously unachievable application scenarios to be built, deployed, managed and controlled effectively. In this paper, we propose a novel architecture of CCPS (termed CCPSA) and outline the enabling technologies for CIA. Then, we dissect three potential challenges and provide solutions from the perspective of CIA, including virtualized resource management techniques, the scheduling of cloud resources, and life cycle management. We hope this paper can provide insight and a roadmap for future research efforts in the emerging field of CCPS.

TL;DR: Details of different ARM architectures that support TrustZone technology are discussed and how TrustZone is implemented in the hardware and software of ARM products are reviewed to compare with other implementations of trusted execution environments on the market.
Abstract: ARM TrustZone is a hardware security extension technology, which aims to provide secure execution environment by splitting computer resources between two execution worlds, namely normal world and secure world. TrustZone is supported on different flavors of ARM architectures, that include architecture deployed on targets running regular applications, such as mobile devices and architecture for micro-controllers. As ARM is widely deployed on the majority of mobile and micro-controller devices, TrustZone's goal is to provide security for those platforms. In this paper, we will discuss details of different ARM architectures that support TrustZone technology. Then, we will review how TrustZone is implemented in the hardware and software of ARM products. We will also compare TrustZone with other implementations of trusted execution environments on the market.

TL;DR: A functional reference architecture for autonomous driving is described, along with various considerations that influence such an architecture, and it is claimed that the presence of explicit components for world modeling, semantic understanding, and vehicle platform abstraction seem unique to this architecture.
Abstract: ContextAs autonomous driving technology matures toward series production, it is necessary to take a deeper look at various aspects of electrical/electronic (E/E) architectures for autonomous driving.ObjectiveThis paper describes a functional reference architecture for autonomous driving, along with various considerations that influence such an architecture. The functionality is described at the logical level, without dependence on specific implementation technologies.MethodEngineering design has been used as the research method, which focuses on creating solutions intended for practical application. The architecture has been refined and applied over a 5 year period to the construction of prototype autonomous vehicles in three different categories, with both academic and industrial stakeholders.ResultsThe architectural components are divided into categories pertaining to (i) perception, (ii) decision and control, and (iii) vehicle platform manipulation. The architecture itself is divided into two layers comprising the vehicle platform and a cognitive driving intelligence. The distribution of components among the architectural layers considers two extremes: one where the vehicle platform is as "dumb" as possible, and the other, where the vehicle platform can be treated as an autonomous system with limited intelligence. We recommend a clean split between the driving intelligence and the vehicle platform. The architecture description includes identification of stakeholder concerns, which are grouped under the business and engineering categories. A comparison with similar architectures is also made, wherein we claim that the presence of explicit components for world modeling, semantic understanding, and vehicle platform abstraction seem unique to our architecture.ConclusionThe concluding discussion examines the influences of implementation technologies on functional architectures and how an architecture is affected when a human driver is replaced by a computer. The discussion also proposes that reduction and acceleration of testing, verification, and validation processes is the key to incorporating continuous deployment processes.

TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive review of vernacular architecture research status is presented, where the main features identified are: built mass design, orientation with respect to sun, space planning, openings, sunspace provision, construction techniques, and building and roof materials.
Abstract: In this study a comprehensive review of vernacular architecture research status is presented. The objective of the study is to identify energy efficient vernacular architecture features affecting indoor thermal comfort conditions for adaptation in modern architecture to suit present day lifestyles. The main features identified are: built mass design, orientation with respect to sun, space planning, openings, sunspace provision, construction techniques, and building and roof materials. Earth with its low compressive strength and durability is found to be prominently used vernacular building material due to its thermal insulation property. The current status and codal provisions regulating use of earth as a building material in different countries namely Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, France, New Mexico, Colombia, Spain and India, are reviewed so as to assess its suitability in modern context. Vernacular architecture features in different climatic zones of India including north-western Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh are also studied along with a case study in composite climate of Hamirpur region, which identifies the relation of vernacular architectural features with thermal comfort conditions. The study identifies an emerging architectural style for this Himalayan region incorporating thermal comfort, energy efficient features, passive solar features, current design and construction techniques. Studies to develop this architecture style, improvement in the strength and durability of earth as building material and thermal comfort studies of vernacular houses are identified as follow up research areas. The study is of relevance for utilizing vernacular materials and architectural features for improving thermal comfort in modern buildings worldwide.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyze behavioral patterns in the spatial configurations of traditional and modern houses in Hamedan and find that the differences between traditional and contemporary houses in terms of the indices of spatial configurations are mainly related to the integration and equivalence of all spaces in a house.
Abstract: The Iranian concept of home goes far beyond physical aspects, and its essence is interwoven with the spiritual nature of humankind. This concept has gained new meanings with the modernization and industrialization of societies. In Iranian architecture, every need is realized in socio-physical systems as well as in design issues. Therefore, spatial relationships are central to architecture, especially residential architecture that addresses a great proportion of an individual׳s daily life. Space syntax seeks to explain how spatial configurations express social or cultural meanings. One such meaning is confidentiality, which was mainly introduced into Iranian architecture as a result of religious beliefs. In Iranian architecture, confidentiality is viewed from the aspect of privacy. This study is a case study that makes use of description, analysis, and logical reasoning. The objective is to analyze behavioral patterns in the spatial configurations of traditional and modern houses in Hamedan. In so doing, library research, software simulation with the UCL Depthmap package, and comparison techniques are utilized. The findings indicate that the spatial configurations of houses have changed in the course of time. In terms of the indices of spatial configurations, however, the striking difference between traditional and modern houses in Hamedan revolves around the integration and equivalence of all spaces in a house. In other words, the hierarchy of access to spaces and the recognition of territories are limited in modern houses. Hence, privacy in modern houses fades.

TL;DR: The "smells" indicating that a community isn't functioning efficiently are discussed, a set of mitigations for those smells are offered, and an overview of community types is provided.
Abstract: Software architects don't just design architecture components or champion architecture qualities; they often must guide and harmonize the entire community of project stakeholders The community-shepherding aspects of the architect's role have been gaining attention, given the increasing importance of complex "organizational rewiring" scenarios such as DevOps, open source strategies, transitions to agile development, and corporate acquisitions In these scenarios, architects would benefit by having effective models to align communities with architectures This article discusses the "smells" indicating that a community isn't functioning efficiently, offers a set of mitigations for those smells, and provides an overview of community types
