TL;DR: Two minor metabolites of prazosin, 2-(1-piperazinyl)-4-amino- 6,7-dimethoxyquinazoline and 2,4-diamino-6, 7-Dimethoxy Quinazoline, are also described, which are less potent blood pressure lowering agents in dogs than prazoin but may contribute to its antihypertensive effect.
Abstract: The 6-O-demethyl and 7-O-demethyl analogues of the new antihypertensive drug prazosin [2-[4-(2-furoyl)-piperazin-1-yl]-4-amino-6,7-dimethoxyquinazoline hydrochloride] have been unequivocally synthesized via separate ten-step reaction sequences starting from isovanillin and vanillin, respectively. The 6-O-demethyl derivative was found to be identical with the major prazosin metabolite formed in dog and rat, while the 7-O-demethyl derivative was identical with another, less prevalent but significant metabolite. Two minor metabolites of prazosin, 2-(1-piperazinyl)-4-amino-6,7-dimethoxyquinazoline and 2,4-diamino-6,7-dimethoxyquinazoline, are also described. All four metabolites are less potent blood pressure lowering agents in dogs than prazosin but may contribute to its antihypertensive effect, since they account for a major portion of the administered dose.

TL;DR: Examination of the product by combined gas chromatography mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance with isotopic labelling has established that the product is a 3,3-spirocyclic indole derivative.
Abstract: When melatonin is reacted with pentafluoropropionic anhydride for selected ion monitoring or electron capture gas chromatographic analysis a volatile product results. Examination of the product by combined gas chromatography mass spectrometry has established that the molecular weight of 360 corresponds to the addition of one molecule of pentafluoropropionic acid followed by dehydration. Further spectroscopic and chemical examination using mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance with isotopic labelling has established that the product is a 3,3-spirocyclic indole derivative. Several analogous compounds were also examined and their mass spectra studied.

TL;DR: In this paper, the ultraviolet spectral and lightfastness properties of five substituted Fischer's bases have been described, including the 5-phthalimidomethyl derivative and the 5,6-dibromo derivative.
Abstract: The amidomethylation of Fischer's base (1,3,3-trimethyl-2- methyleneindoline) with N-hydroxy-methylphthalimide gives, as the main product, the 5-phthalimidomethyl derivative (4). This compound has been converted into its parent amine (5) from which a N-chloroacetyl derivative (6) was readily obtained. Fischer's base reacted with one equivalent of dibromoisocyanuric acid to give the 5-bromo derivative (7) and with two equivalents to give the 5,6-dibromo derivative (8). All five substituted Fischer's bases have been used to prepare representative polymethine dyes, the ultraviolet spectral and lightfastness (on wool) properties of which are described. Dyes containing one bromine atom impart particularly brilliant shades to wool. A dye containing the N-chloro-acetamidomethyl substituent proved to be fibre-reactive.
