Abstract: Eight species of euantennariaceous sooty moulds are distinguished in about 250 collections from New Zealand. Four species are described and illustrated with Euantennaria ascostromata, and Antennatula and Hormisciomyces imperfect states; these are E. mucronata (Moet.) Hughes, E. novae-zelandiae nsp., E. pacifica nsp., and E. caulicola n.sp. Four new species of Antennatula are described and illustrated; these are A. triseptata n.sp., A. fisherae n.sp., A. dingleyae n.sp., and A. fraserae n.sp. A. fisherae and A. dingleyae also produce a Hormisciomyces phialidic state. The two original species of Aithalomyces Woronichin are induded in Euantennaria as E. arctica (Woronichin) n.comb. and E. rhododendri (Woronichin) n.comb. Both species are illustrated and described. Limacinia alaskensis Sacc. & Scalia is considered to be a possible earlier synonym of E. rhododendri. Brief notes are given on E. tropicicola, the type species of this genus, and Hormisciella rubi Bat. is considered a possible name for its...

TL;DR: It has been found that the Paranereites, a scole codont genus common in the Mesozoic, is a synonym of the genus Glycera, and other scolecodonts, considered by some authors as ancestors of the Recent genera Nereis and GlycerA, are not closely related to these polychaetes.
Abstract: The principles of comparing the jaws of the fossil and Recent polychaetes are here discussed. A Jurassic jaw apparatus is described and assigned to the Recent genus Ophryotrocha . Other jaws of polychaetes not having composite apparatus are assigned to Recent genera Glycera and ?Goniada. It has been found that the Paranereites, a scolecodont genus common in the Mesozoic, is a synonym of the genus Glycera. Other scolecodonts, considered by some authors as ancestors of the Recent genera Nereis and Glycera, are not closely related to these polychaetes. The generic assignment of the Mesozoic scolecodonts, usually included in the genus Goniada, is not certain. It has also been found that the Mesozoic polychaetes are moooe closely rela.ted to the Recent rather than the Palaeozoic genera.

TL;DR: In this paper, the apterus-group of the staphylinid genus Tachinus Gravenhorst is described and the major diagnostic characters illustrated with scanning electron photomicrographs.
Abstract: Four species have been described in the apterus-group of the staphylinid genus Tachinus Gravenhorst. One of these, tundrae Poppius, is regarded as a synonym of brevipennis Sahlberg. Tachinus arcticus (Motschulsky) is recognized as a valid species, although earlier works have considered it a synonym of apterus. Tachinus brevipennis is recorded from the Nearctic Region for the first time. A neotype is designated for arcticus and lectotypes are designated for brevipennis and tundrae. Tachinus instabilis Maklin is transferred to the apterus-group from the fimbriatus-group and recorded for the first time from Siberia. One new species, T. glacialis, is described from Siberia.A key for identification of the species of the group and a description of the group characters are included. Each of the five species is described and the major diagnostic characters illustrated with scanning electron photomicrographs. A map is included to show the distribution of the species.

TL;DR: In this paper, the phylogenetic relationships of the Lizerini are discussed and it is concluded that this tribe branched off from Mindarus-Neophyllaphis-like aphids and that the Schoutedeniini evolved from ancestors that were related to Lizerius.
Abstract: Four species of Lizerius Blanchard, L. cermelii, L. intermedius, L. costai and L. brasiliensis, from South America and four species of Paoliella Theobald, P. reticulosiphon and P. melanocallis from South America, and P. pteleopsidis and P. longirostris from Africa, are described as new. Redescriptions of L. tuberculatus (Blanchard) and P. kenyensis (Eastop) are also given, with keys for the species of Lizerius and Paoliella. Neolizerius is made a synonym of Lizerius. A new subgenus Paralizerius is established. Adhesive vesicles are reported for the two South American Paoliella species. The phylogenetic relationships of the Lizerini are discussed. It is concluded that this tribe branched off from Mindarus–Neophyllaphis-like aphids and that the Schoutedeniini evolved from ancestors that were related to the Lizerini.

TL;DR: The gonopods of the type specimen of Exospermastix robustus Verhoeff, 1951 (Mato Grosso, nr Cuiaba) are illustrated and their structure discussed, and the previous estimate of hassleri as a species of Urostreptus is reaffirmed.
Abstract: Summary Exospermastix robustus Verhoeff, 1951 (Mato Grosso, nr Cuiaba) is regarded as a species of Urostreptus; the gonopods of the type specimen are illustrated and their structure discussed. The species is in many ways similar to U. camerani and U. paxillatus, but is much larger than either. The status of the generic and specific names Stenostreptus hassleri Carl is reviewed after a study of the type material, and the previous estimate of hassleri as a species of Urostreptus is reaffirmed. New drawings made from the lectotype of hassleri are given. The gonopods of a species identified as U. borelli by F. Silvestri, the author of that name, are illustrated, and the suggestion made that borelli may be found to be a senior synonym of hassleri.

TL;DR: Because all the Linnean material examined is of one species, and the collections at BM and S and LINN most likely have been in Linnaeus' hands I designate the BM specimen as the lectotype and the S andLINN specimens as paralectotypes.
Abstract: This name does not pose a serious typification problem. Linnaeus repeated the phrase name of the Hortus cliffortianus, and this is also used in Hortus upsaliensis. The specimen associated with that phrase name is conserved in the British Museum (BM)l and its identity agrees with A. sativa of most authors and its traditional meaning. But the specimen (Fig. 1) quotes "var. ,f", i.e. alba. At Stockholm (S) I was able to examine another syntype, namely that of the Hortus Upsaliensis which bears the following annotation "4 Avena sativa Hort. Ups. 1.20.1.f 'Herb. Casstrimii'." This, too, is var. d, and taxonomically identical. A specimen with the same identity annotated "sativa 5" by Linnaeus and conserved now in London (LINN), no. 95.6 (Savage, 1945 p. 19), although closely linked to the Species Plantarum because of Linnaeus's annotation of the number 5, may be considered as another syntype. Because all the Linnean material examined is of one species, and the collections at BM and S most likely have been in Linnaeus' hands I designate the BM specimen as the lectotype, and the S and LINN specimens as paralectotypes. I was unable to examine the Van Royen paralectotype. Furthermore, my searches in Uppsala (UPS) were in vain, for in the Burser herbarium I did not find any specimen pertinent to the Bauhin synonym Avena nigra or to var. f,. For the latter it is not serious, because the lectotype and the paralectotype from S are also its types. There is another specimen in LINN, no. 95.7 (Savage, 1945 p. 19) annotated by Linnaeus "A. ponderosa H.U." but never published, and known only from Jackson (1912). It is also A. sativa L.

Abstract: A first list of Collembola from Ibiza is presented, based on material extracted from two soil samples in midwinter. Out of the 13 species that are recorded three are new to science, viz.: Hypogastrura pityusica, Lathriopyga ibicensis and Neosminthurus natalicius. The latter species forms the first European record of the genus Neosminthurus Mills, 1934. Another interesting discovery was that of Folsomides marchicus (Frenzel, 1941); arguments are brought forward that this species is a senior synonym of Subisotoma petiti Delamare Deboutteville, 1948. The holotype of Hypogastrura serrata (Agren, 1904) has been studied and some additions to the original description are presented. It is found that the specimen was heavily infected by Sporozoa; it is suggested that some characters reported as differentiating this taxon, in particular the serrated setae, might be caused by ecomorphic processes triggered by this infection.

TL;DR: Euphorbia petiolata Banks & Sol, perhaps better known by its synonym E. lanata Sieber ex Spreng.
Abstract: Euphorbia petiolata Banks & Sol., perhaps better known by its synonym E. lanata Sieber ex Spreng., is a widespread and common densely woolly annual spurge in the drier parts of SW. Asia, ranging from Israel, Lebanon & Syria eastwards to the Turkmen S.S.R. and Pakistan; it is also found in Algeria. In his monographic treatment of Euphorbia in De Candolle's 'Prodromus', Edmund Boissier (1862) created a special subsection, Crotonopsideae, of his section Tithymalus to accommodate E. petiolata, which presents certain features which when taken together are rather anomalous for the group, notably (a) the great proportion of the plant-body contributed to by the rays, (b) the petiolate ray-leaves, (c) the pectinate cyathial glands, (d) the undivided styles and (e) the pustulate seeds. If Boissier's section Tithymalus is raised to subgeneric level, as was done, for example, in 'Flora Europaea', Vol. 2 (1968), then it has to be referred to as subgenus Esula Pers., which is the earliest available name for the taxon at this rank. In this event, it is desirable to raise Boissier's sub-sections to the level of section, when subsection Crotonopsideae has to be referred to as section Dematra (Raf.) Prokh., the earliest available name for the taxon at sectional rank.

Abstract: Five specimens of Anatanais normani (Richardson, 1905), one of them ovigerous, were collected SE of Bermuda in floating Sargassum natans. They are compared with Richardson's type material and some important features of this are also described. The main difference lies in the smaller size of the Bermuda specimens. Anatanais lineatus (Nordenstam, 1930) is considered a synonym of A, normani (Richardson).
