Abstract: A revolutionary virtual crew station concept titled the “Super Cockpit” is introduced with its applications and operational advantages. Unique aspects of the virtual information portrayal and interactive medium of the super cockpit are discussed leading to a need for new areas of human factors research and engineering.

TL;DR: The purpose of the trip was to attempt to solve one of two serious problems that bothered me at that time, and inside the bag were some experimental data on temporal summation obtained in collaboration with Professor R. M. Boynton at the National Physical Laboratory.

Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: It appears that the SOD content of free-living nitrogenfixing bacteria is significantly higher than that encountered in non-fixing ones, and the situation of some blue-green algae capable of fixing nitrogen appears even more complex since they contain an oxygen-evolving system associated with photosynthesis.

TL;DR: A practical method for visualizing finite strains has been discovered and involves a transparent synthetic polymer (SGM36) and a simple grid printing technique and can be described by a Reiner-Rivlin type.
Abstract: Flow visualization is a difficulty in many fluid mechanical studies because the low-viscosity fluids currently used have large diffusion coefficients. Thus, dye markers rapidly diffuse if the flow stagnates. It has been the custom to visualize streamlines, particle paths, and streaklines, but a practical method for visualizing finite strains has not previously been available. Such a method has now been discovered and involves a transparent synthetic polymer (SGM36) and a simple grid printing technique. SGM36, the industrial code [1] of a polymer liquid between 200 and 550 K, consists of linear polydimethylsiloxane molecules. The viscosity of SGM36 is Newtonian below shear strain rates of 3 x 10 s s1 and becomes slightly nonNewtonian for strain rates between 3 x 1 0 -3 and 10s 1 (298K, 0 . 1 M P a ; Fig. 1). The differential stress a (in Pa) within SGM36 flowing at shear strain rates 9 between 10 and 100 s , can be described by a Reiner-Rivlin type

TL;DR: The paper emphazises the overall principles of query processing and gives hints about the underlying techniques used while constructing the thesaurus and automatically indexing highly structured documents.
Abstract: IOTA is a prototype of an Information Retrieval System which can manage a corpus made of highly structured, full text documents. The first version presented here has intelligent capabilities related to heuristic pattern matching procedures for processing natural language queries, which involve an automatically built thesaurus. The paper emphazises the overall principles of query processing and gives hints about the underlying techniques used while constructing the thesaurus and automatically indexing highly structured documents.

TL;DR: The second edition of the Bibliographic Classification of H. E. Bliss (BC2) is a rich source of structure and terminology for thesauri covering different subject fields and is thesaurus‐compatible.
Abstract: The second edition of the Bibliographic Classification of H. E. Bliss (BC2), being prepared under the editorship of Jack Mills, Vanda Broughton and others, is a rich source of structure and terminology for thesauri covering different subject fields. The new edition employs facet analysis and is thesaurus‐compatible. A number of facet‐based thesauri have drawn upon Bliss for terms and relationships. In two of these thesauri the Bliss Classification was the source of both systematic and alphabetical displays. The DHSS‐DATA thesaurus, published by the United Kingdom Department of Health and Social Security, provides controlled terms and Bliss class numbers for indexing and searching the DHSS‐DATA database. The ECOT thesaurus (Educational courses and occupations thesaurus) prepared for the Department of Education and Science, uses the software designed for the British Standards Institution ROOT thesaurus to generate an alphabetical display from the systematic display derived from the Bliss schedules. Problems, benefits, and future prospects of Bliss‐based thesaurus construction are discussed.
