Mutations in the Canalicular Multispecific Organic Anion Transporter (cMOAT) Gene, a Novel ABC Transporter, in Patients with Hyperbilirubinemia II/Dubin-Johnson Syndrome
Morimasa Wada,Satoshi Toh,Ken Taniguchi,Takanori Nakamura,Takeshi Uchiumi,Kimitoshi Kohno,Ichiro Yoshida,Akihiko Kimura,Shotaro Sakisaka,Yukihiko Adachi,Michihiko Kuwano +10 more
TL;DR: Two deletions and a missense mutation in the active transport family signature region in the gene in patients with hyperbilirubinemia II/Dubin‐Johnson syndrome (DJS) are reported, which strongly implicate the cMOAT gene as responsible for the defects in DJS patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pathology of chronic hepatitis C in children
Masayoshi Kage,Takuji Fujisawa,K Shiraki,Toshimitsu Tanaka,Akihiko Kimura,Kazuhide Shimamatsu,Eisuke Nakashima,Masamichi Kojiro,M Koike,Y Tazawa,D Abukawa,M Okaniwa,H Takita,A Matsui,T Hayashi,T Etou,S Terasawa,K Sugiyama,H Tajiri,A Yoden,Y Kajiwara,Michio Sata,Yasuyo Uchimura +22 more
TL;DR: The majority of children with CHC presented with mild fibrosis, but a few showed CHC with lobular distortion and hemosiderosis, and frequent blood transfusion may aggravate hepatic lesions in pediatric CHC.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cholestenoic acids regulate motor neuron survival via liver X receptors
Spyridon Theofilopoulos,William J. Griffiths,Peter J. Crick,Shanzheng Yang,Anna Meljon,Michael Ogundare,Satish Srinivas Kitambi,Andrew Lockhart,Karin Tuschl,Peter E. Clayton,Andrew A. M. Morris,Adelaida Martinez,M. Ashwin Reddy,Andrea Martinuzzi,Maria Teresa Bassi,Akira Honda,Tatsuki Mizuochi,Akihiko Kimura,Hiroshi Nittono,Giuseppe De Michele,Rosa Carbone,Chiara Criscuolo,Joyce L.W. Yau,Jonathan R. Seckl,Rebecca Schüle,Ludger Schöls,Andreas W. Sailer,Jens Kuhle,Matthew J. Fraidakis,Jan-Ake Gustafsson,Knut R. Steffensen,Ingemar Björkhem,Patrik Ernfors,Jan Sjövall,Ernest Arenas,Yuqin Wang +35 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that specific cholestenoic acids selectively work on motor neurons, via LXR, to regulate the balance between survival and death.
Journal ArticleDOI
Intractable diarrhea after liver transplantation for Byler's disease: Successful treatment with bile adsorptive resin
TL;DR: Six patients with Byler's disease developed intractable diarrhea after living donor liver transplantation, and four patients were treated with bile acid adsorptive resin for bile Acid diarrhea, and all showed improved bowel movements.
Journal ArticleDOI
Liver disease in infancy caused by oxysterol 7α-hydroxylase deficiency: successful treatment with chenodeoxycholic acid
Dongling Dai,Dongling Dai,Philippa B. Mills,Emma Footitt,Paul Gissen,Patricia McClean,Jens Stahlschmidt,Isabelle Coupry,Julie Lavie,Fanny Mochel,Cyril Goizet,Tatsuki Mizuochi,Akihiko Kimura,Hiroshi Nittono,Karin Schwarz,Peter J. Crick,Yuqin Wang,William J. Griffiths,Peter E. Clayton +18 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) can reduce the activity of cholesterol 27-hydroxylase - the first step in the acidic pathway for bile acid synthesis.
